We have developed soft rubber (SR) bolus that can be shaped in real-time by heating flexibly and repeatedly. This study investigated whether the SR bolus could be used as an ideal bolus, such as not changing of the beam characteristics and homogeneity through the bolus and high plasticity to adhere a patient in addition to real-time shapeable and reusability, in electron radiotherapy. Percentage depth doses (PDDs) and lateral dose profiles (LDPs) were obtained for 4, 6, and 9 MeV electron beams and were compared between the SR and conventional gel boluses. For the LDP at depth of 90% dose, the penumbra as lateral distance between the 80% and 20% isodose lines () and the width of 90% dose level () were compared. To evaluate adhesion, the air gap volume between the boluses and nose of a head phantom was evaluated on CT image. The dose profiles along the center axis for the 6 MeV electron beam with SR, gel, and virtual boluses (thickness = 5 mm) on the head phantom were also calculated for the irradiation of 200 monitor unit with a treatment planning system and the depth of the maximum dose () and maximum dose () were compared. The PDDs,, andbetween the SR and gel boluses corresponded well (within 2%, 0.4 mm, and 0.7 mm, respectively). The air gap volumes of the SR and gel boluses were 3.14 and 50.35 cm, respectively. Thewith SR, gel and virtual boluses were 8.0, 6.0, and 7.0 mm (no bolus: 12.0 mm), and thevalues were 186.4, 170.6, and 186.8 cGy, respectively. The SR bolus had the equivalent electron beam characteristics and homogeneity to the gel bolus and achieved excellent adhesion to a body surface, which can be used in electron radiotherapy as an ideal bolus.

Previous studies revealed that tumor-associated macrophages/microglia (TAMs) promoted glioma invasiveness during tumor progression and after radiotherapy. However, the communication of TAMs with tumor cells remains unclear. This study aimed to examine the role of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) derived from TAMs in TAMs-mediated brain tumor invasion.

Background: This in vitro study evaluated the efficacy of professional and home-use fluoride regimens for protecting irradiated enamel, undergoing pH cycling resembling xerostomia.
Methods: Sixty human premolar teeth were irradiated with a total dose of 70 Gy and subsequently sectioned into 3 × 3 cm enamel slabs. These slabs were randomly distributed into five groups (n = 12 per group): professional-use groups received fluoride varnish either weekly (FV1) or biweekly (FV2); home-use groups applied 5000 ppm (FT5) or 1450 ppm (FT) fluoride toothpaste; and a control group (control) received no treatment.

Aims: This pilot study aimed to compare the marginal adaptation of composite resin at the tooth-restoration interface, before and after radiation.
Subjects And Methods: Fifteen extracted premolars were divided into 2 experimental groups (based on the timing of irradiation) and 1 control group of 5 teeth each. In Group I (control group), teeth were restored but not exposed to radiation at any stage, Group II: teeth were irradiated before cavity preparation and restoration, and Group III: after cavity preparation and restoration employing selective etch technique, teeth were exposed to radiation.

Introduction: Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is closely associated with the host microbiome. While recent evidence suggests that shifts in specific bacterial taxa are associated with response to UV-B, a form of non-ionizing radiation, the impact of ionizing radiation (IR) has not been investigated.
Methods: 16S rRNA and gene amplicon sequencing were performed on DNA extracted from swabs of lesional/non-lesional skin of 12 CTCL patients before/after TSEBT or local IR and from 25 matched healthy controls (HC).

Each cell in the human body is continually exposed to harmful external and internal factors. During evolution, cells have developed various defence systems, divided into enzymatic and non-enzymatic types, to which low-weight molecule antioxidants belong. In this article, the ionisation potential and electron affinity, as well as global reactivity descriptors of Vitamin C, Melatonin, Uric Acids, and N-acetyl-L-cysteine, were theoretically investigated at the MP-2/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory in the condensed (aqueous) phase.
