The FAST Workstation Shows Construct Validity and Participant Endorsement. | LitMetric

AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

Purpose: To determine in what way the proposed simulation-based intervention (SBI) is an effective intervention for use in basic arthroscopic skills training.

Methods: Twenty candidates were recruited and grouped according to experience. Performance metrics included the time to activity completion, errors made, and Global Rating Scale score. Qualitative data were collected using a structured questionnaire.

Results: Performance on the SBI differed depending on previous arthroscopic training received. Performance on the simulator differed between groups to a statistically significant level regarding time to completion. A difference was also present between participants with no previous training and those with previous training when assessed using the Global Rating Scale. The SBI was deemed acceptable, user-friendly, and realistic. Participants practicing at the expert level believe that such an SBI would be beneficial in developing basic arthroscopic skills.

Conclusions: The results of this study provide evidence that the use of an SBI consisting of a benchtop workstation, laptop viewing platform, 30° arthroscope, and defined performance metrics can detect differences in the level of arthroscopic experience. This format of SBI has been deemed acceptable and useful to the intended user, increasing the feasibility of introducing it into surgical training.

Clinical Relevance: This study adds to the existing body of evidence supporting the potential benefits of benchtop SBIs in arthroscopic skills training. Improved performance on such an SBI may be beneficial for the purpose of basic arthroscopic skills training, and we would support the inclusion of this system in surgical training programs such as those developed by the Arthroscopy Association of North America and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Despite maximally motivated and professionally outstanding young talent, the particularly stressful surgical disciplines have recruitment concerns. In recent years various sections and subsidiary societies of the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU) have developed and distributed personnel and institution-related certificates. Organ-specific and procedure-specific certificates are very popular to confer increased visibility to individuals and institutions.

Objectives: Our study aimed to elucidate synovial plica (SP) of the elbow histological characteristics and the anatomical relationship with adjacent structures. Subsequently, we sought to assess the relationship between SP and clinical symptoms as well as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features in patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis.

Methods: MRI was performed on eight cadaveric elbows specimens.

Background: Elbow stiffness poses a significant challenge for surgeons as well as physiotherapists during and after surgery. To date, there is no consensus regarding the subsequent rehabilitation after surgical release of the stiff elbow.

Objective: The aim is to evaluate the most important therapeutic strategies following open or arthroscopic release of the stiff elbow based on a comprehensive literature review, and to develop a consensus for or against specific therapeutic methods with the help of a survey among elbow experts of the D-A-CH Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (DVSE).

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on Segond fractures in patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, analyzing the impact of these fractures on tibiofemoral position using MRI.
  • A total of 44 patients with ACL injuries and Segond fractures were compared to 44 matched control patients without Segond fractures, specifically looking at injuries and rotatory movement in the knee.
  • Results indicated that patients with Segond fractures showed higher rates of additional knee injuries and significant changes in rotational movement, suggesting a link between Segond fractures and more complex knee damage.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between arthroscopic discopexy with resorbable pins or disc mobilisation and its effect on the bone marrow of the mandibular condyle. An observational analytical retrospective cohort study was conducted. The inclusion criteria comprised adult patients with Wilkes IV and V with MRI in T2 sequence undergoing TMJ arthroscopy.
