Epidemiological forecasts are beset by uncertainties about the underlying epidemiological processes, and the surveillance process through which data are acquired. We present a Bayesian inference methodology that quantifies these uncertainties, for epidemics that are modelled by (possibly) non-stationary, continuous-time, Markov population processes. The efficiency of the method derives from a functional central limit theorem approximation of the likelihood, valid for large populations. We demonstrate the methodology by analysing the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK, based on age-structured data for the number of deaths. This includes maximum estimates, Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling of the posterior, computation of the model evidence, and the determination of parameter sensitivities via the Fisher information matrix. Our methodology is implemented in PyRoss, an open-source platform for analysis of epidemiological compartment models.

The marine diatom genus comprises cosmopolitan phytoplankton species commonly present in the Adriatic Sea. Species within the genus have been of significant concern because they produce domoic acid (DA), which can cause amnesic shellfish poisoning (ASP). In this study, we identified species along the Central and Southeastern Adriatic Sea, where monthly sampling carried out from February 2022 to February 2024 allowed for comprehensive species documentation.

Chevrolat, 1863, one of the most species-rich genera of Clytini, comprises 36 subgenera and 302 species/subspecies, with some species being of significant economic importance. To assess the monophyly and subgeneric system of this genus, we newly obtained mitochondrial genomic data from 21 species of via high-throughput sequencing and reconstructed the phylogeny of this genus using ML and BI methods. The mitochondrial genomes of all sequenced species were found to comprise 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and one non-coding region (control region, CR), reflecting a highly conserved gene arrangement.

Key Laboratory of South China Sea Fishery Resources Exploitation and Utilization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Guangzhou 510300, China.

Background: (Günther; 1867) is a member of the family Polynemidae. The placement of Polynemidae among teleosts has varied over the years.

Methods: Therefore, in this study, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome of , analyzed the characterization of the mitochondrial genome, and investigated the phylogenetic relationships of Polynemidae.

Corynosoma pseudohamanni Zdzitowiecki, 1984 (Polymorphidae) was described from the intestinal tract of 5 species of seals including the type and main host, the Weddell seal Leptonycotes weddellii (Lesson) in the South Shetlands, West Antarctica. Notothenia coriiceps was the primary paratenic host of 14 fish hosts reported in the original description. We describe excysted juveniles from the body cavity of the major paratenic host, Notothenia coriiceps Richardson collected off Galindez Island, Argentine Islands, West Antarctica for the first time.
