Purpose: The aim of this study is to explore the clinical relationship between the varicocele-associated male infertility with hookah smoking practice in the Saudi community in the al Jouf region.

Materials And Methods: A total of 192 patients were categorized into two groups; varicocele with (Varicocele-Associated Hooka (VH) group; = 100) and without smoking (NHV group; = 92). Laboratory investigations such as hormonal (follicle-stimulating hormone, and luteinizing hormone [LH]), semen analysis were performed. Ultrasonography-based varicocele screening was performed. Data were analyzed with SPSS version 21.0. < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.

Results: Increased prevalence of varicocele Grade 2 (57%) and Grade 3 (52.5%) in HV groups. In contrast, Grade 1 was increased in NHV group (55.6%). A significant ( = 0.05) decrease in testosterone levels in the HV group (2.83 ± 0.21) as compared to NHV group (2.33 ± 0.07) observed. Decreased levels of sperm count (21.96 ± 6.31) and sperm morphology (14.09 ± 0.45) were observed in HV groups as compared to NHV group (22.5 ± 5.49, 14.51 ± 5.02, respectively). HV groups showed the increased diameter of the testicular vein (3.52 ± 0.71) as compared to NHV group (3.42 ± 0.72). Chronic smoking revealed a statistically significant effect on testosterone ( = 0.015) and LH levels ( < 0.041) in the HV group. In addition, hookah smoking sessions per week affect sperm motility ( = 0.02) in the HV group. A significant correlation was observed in sperm count ( = 0.24, < 0.016) and motility ( = 0.25, = 0.010) in HV group.

Conclusion: Chronic hookah smoking significantly affects the reproductive hormonal and semen parameters in varicocele patients as compared to people with varicocele without smoking. This implies that hookah has an adverse effect on male reproductive and infertility.

Background: Pain and inflammation are closely associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which affects the bones and joints.

Aim: While there are a number of therapeutic options for arthritis, their side effects restrict their use and encourage the search for alternative, natural remedies.

Methods: In male rats, we examined the anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic properties of venom (NHV).

Purpose: To synthesize the current literature on posterolateral corner (PLC) reconstruction and repair, focusing on a comparison of surgical techniques and outcomes based on injury chronicity in the setting of sports-related ligament tears.

Methods: A systematic review of the literature, including queries of the PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases, was performed in March 2024. Studies were included if they were of Level IV evidence or greater, reported PLC reconstruction or repair outcomes, and had a minimum 2-year follow-up.

The expanding field of site-specific ligation of proteins and peptides has catalyzed the development of novel methods that enhance molecular modification. Among these methods, enzymatic strategies have emerged as dominant due to their specificity and efficiency in modifying proteins under mild conditions. Asparaginyl endopeptidase is a group of cyclotide-producing cysteine proteases from plants.

Purpose: To assess the risk of revision surgery following repair versus reconstruction of the medial ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the elbow in a national sample of patients in the United States.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of young patients (≤35 years old) who underwent primary UCL reconstruction or repair for an isolated medial UCL injury of the elbow from October 2015 through October 2022 in a large national database (PearlDiver). Patient demographic data, comorbidities, surgical details, and concomitant ulnar nerve procedures were collected.

Article Synopsis
  • Anatomical 3D-printed nasal casts are important for studying how drugs are delivered inside the nose and provide unique preclinical data not available from animal studies.
  • The study analyzed CT scans from 98 patients, revealing anatomical differences in the nasal cavity and identifying three distinct nasal geometry groups, leading to the creation of representative 3D models.
  • The research demonstrated that these anatomical variations significantly impact how well different medical devices deliver drugs, especially with nasal sprays and nebulizers, highlighting the need for diverse models to assess drug effectiveness in different populations.
