Objective: Pathological exercise is a dangerous behavior often observed in eating disorders. Data investigating associated characteristics of pathological exercise in men are lacking, despite college men and women being at equally elevated risk for developing eating disorders.

Participants: Two hundred and twenty-four college men who exercise regularly completed a series of self-report questionnaires.

Methods: Latent profile analysis was used to identify empirically-derived homogenous subgroups of regular exercisers based on severity of other eating disorder attitudes and behaviors. Profiles were also compared on differences in exercise motivation and general psychopathology (i.e., depression, anxiety).

Results: Fit indices indicated a three-profile solution. Profiles described an eating psychopathology group, a low psychopathology group, and a high exercise frequency group without eating disorder features.

Conclusions: Pathological exercise cannot be identified using exercise frequency alone. Other features like body dissatisfaction and exercise motivation style are relevant in identifying pathological exercise behavior in college men.

Sarcopenia as a Prognostic Factor and Multimodal Interventions in Breast Cancer.

Int J Gen Med

December 2024

Department of Thyroid and Breast Surgery, Quzhou People's Hospital, Quzhou, 324000, People's Republic of China.

Objective: This study aims to demonstrate the impact of sarcopenia on the prognosis of early breast cancer and its role in early multimodal intervention.

Methods: The clinical data of patients (n=285) subjected to chemotherapy for early-stage breast cancer diagnosed pathologically between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2020, in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Accordingly, the recruited subjects were divided into sarcopenia (n=85) and non-sarcopenia (n=200) groups according to CT diagnosis correlating with single-factor and multifactorial logistic regression analyses.

A high proportion of individuals with Achilles tendinopathy continue to demonstrate long-term symptoms and functional impairments after exercise treatment. Thus, there is a need to delineate patient presentations that may require alternative treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate if the presence of metabolic risk factors relates to tendon symptoms, psychological factors, triceps surae structure, and lower limb function in individuals with Achilles tendinopathy.

Patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) provide a clinically relevant method for recapitulating tumor-involved cell types and the tumor microenvironment, which is essential for advancing knowledge of breast cancer (BC). Additionally, PDX models enable the study of BC systemic effects, which is not possible using in vitro models. Traditional methods for implanting BC xenografts typically involve anesthesia and sterile surgical procedures, which are time-consuming, invasive, and limit the scalability of PDX models in BC research.

Muscle degeneration is a common issue caused by rotator cuff tear (RCT) which significantly affects prognosis. Muscle stem cells (MuSCs) play a crucial role to prevent muscle degeneration after RCT. However, the pathological changes and detailed molecular mechanism underlying the myogenesis of MuSCs after RCT remain incomplete.
