The most commonly considered infection with a species is cat-scratch disease caused by Here, we discuss a unique case of a 60-year-old man who presented with infection complicated by nosocomial COVID-19. He was admitted with a history of chest pain, persistent fever, rash and influenza-like symptoms. Positive serology confirmed diagnosis and the patient developed complications of pericardial effusion in addition to COVID-19 infection, requiring non-invasive ventilation and admission to the intensive care unit. We discuss his symptoms, investigations, treatment and outcomes, while also highlighting the challenges of assessing patients presenting with fever of unknown origin during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The emergence of carbapenem-resistant pathogenic bacteria is a growing global public health concern. Carbapenem-resistant uropathogenic strains of can cause uncomplicated or complicated urinary tract infections, leading to a high risk of treatment failure and the spread of resistance determinants. The objectives of this 24-month study were to identify the prognostic characteristics of patients who were infected with carbapenem-resistant () and to create a tool to estimate the probability of a infection before having the complete results of a patient's antibiogram.

  • Ventriculoperitoneal shunts (VPSs) are essential for treating certain medical conditions, but they come with complications, particularly in light of increasing antibiotic resistance.
  • A case was presented involving a serious VPS infection caused by bacteria resistant to colistin, which was successfully treated with intraventricular tigecycline, showing no negative side effects.
  • The effectiveness of intraventricular tigecycline against colistin-resistant infections is encouraging, but more research is needed to determine proper dosages and establish guidelines for its use.
