The Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) is a large marine bird whose whole North American population breeds in waters of eastern Canada. Opportunities to identify causes of morbidity and mortality in recently hatched birds of this species are therefore limited to this region of North America. During the three decades since 1990 of wildlife health surveillance at the Atlantic regional center of the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative, what appears to be a previously undescribed syndrome of ischemic leg necrosis affecting mainly hatch-year Northern Gannets has emerged, which may relate to some unique aspects of the life history of these birds. This syndrome, observed in 14 birds, is characterized by severe necrosis and fibrinopurulent inflammation of soft tissues of the feet extending along the whole tarsometatarsus. An infectious cause is proposed to explain the pattern of lesions observed in these birds, possibly favored by a specialized and rich vascular system in their legs and feet. An acute or subacute cardiomyopathy, thought to be secondary to the severe leg lesions, was also observed microscopically in six of these birds.

Mixed Transcortical Aphasia (MTA) is an infrequent aphasic syndrome, characterized by poor comprehension and production in oral language abilities and poor performance in written language abilities. However, individuals with MTA typically retain the ability to repeat. Our patient, a woman who suffered from a left hemisphere ischemic stroke involving perisylvian areas, presented with repetition preserved for words, non-words, sentences and numbers, together with marginally preserved reading abilities.

Left atrial strain (LAS) was recently introduced as a parameter that reflects on left atrial function. Consequently, changes in LAS can inform the development of cardiovascular diseases, hence providing a window for non-invasive and cost-effective testing of these diseases and their complications at early stages of development, potentially offering a segway towards preventive interventions. LAS has yet to be implemented into standard practice.

The article presents theses of the resolution of the Interdisciplinary Council of Experts in Psychiatry and Neurology (Moscow, 2024) on the issue of comorbid anxiety disorders (AD) in patients with neurological pathologies. The authors highlight the high prevalence of comorbid ADs and their significant negative impact on the course of underlying diseases, such as epilepsy, pain syndromes and post-stroke conditions. Background: Lung transplantation is a viable lifesaving option for patients with diffuse pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). We present a case of diffuse pulmonary AVMs associated with juvenile polyposis and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (JP-HHT) that was successfully managed by lung transplantation.
Case Presentation: A 19-year-old woman developed severe hypoxemia due to pulmonary AVMs diagnosed at 4 years of age.
