According to the literature, a number of anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) have an ototoxic effect. The mechanism of hearing dysfunction due to the use of AEDs is not well known. The main clinical manifestations of the cochleotoxic effect of the drugs are: tinnitus, sensorineural hearing loss, impaired pitch perception, hyperacusis.

Background: Despite local and national recommendations, health care provider adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) varied during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous studies have identified factors influencing initial PPE adherence but did not address factors influencing behaviors leading to correction after initial nonadherence.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective video review of 18 pediatric resuscitations involving aerosol-generating procedures from March 2020 to December 2022 to identify factors associated with nonadherence correction.

Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) can affect brain development in early life, but few studies have investigated the effects of PAE on trajectories of white matter tract maturation in young children. Here we used diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) repeated over three time points, to measure the effects of PAE on patterns of white matter microstructural development during the pre-school years. Participants were drawn from the Drakenstein Child Health Study (DCHS), an ongoing birth cohort study conducted in a peri-urban community in the Western Cape, South Africa.
