The acromioclavicular (AC) joint injury is a common shoulder injury in sports medicine. Combined coracoclavicular stabilization with AC capsule repair is 1 of 2 preferred treatments in acute high-grade AC joint injury. In East-Asian populations, the surgeon prefers to pass the first suture under the coracoid base, which is difficult using only basic surgical tools. We propose using a modified K-wire to pass the first suture under the coracoid base.

Purpose: To assess whether capsular closure during hip arthroscopy with periportal capsulotomy affects 2-year postoperative outcomes for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) patients without hypermobility.

Methods: A matched-cohort retrospective analysis of a single institutional database of patients who underwent hip arthroscopy with periportal capsulotomy for management of FAIS between 2014-2022 was performed. Study inclusion criteria consisted of FAIS patients who exhibited no signs of generalized ligamentous laxity (GLL) (Beighton score 0).

Large iris defects are challenging to close due to shortage of tissue and opposite vector force. By using two pupilloplasty methods, we can close large iris defects with less tractional force or tethering. The trifold technique is a combination of trocar-assisted iris repair and single-pass four-throw (SFT) pupilloplasty for non-appositional large iris defects.

Background: Suture-loaded long hollow needles are used in arthroscopic surgery to pass or retrieve sutures and in meniscal repair surgeries. However, manual suture loading can be time-consuming and challenging, especially with finer sutures. We present a novel technique using vacuum suction to simplify and expedite suture loading in hollow needles and similar devices.

Acute primary gastric volvulus with open suture gastropexy: a case report.

Ann Med Surg (Lond)

November 2024

Colorectal Surgery Research Center, Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex Hospital Complex, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Article Synopsis
  • Gastric volvulus is a rare and potentially fatal condition that can lead to closed-loop obstruction, with mortality rates as high as 50% if not managed properly.
  • A case study is presented where a patient developed acute gastric volvulus after fasting, underwent successful surgery with no complications, and was discharged.
  • Early diagnosis and intervention, supported by CT imaging, are crucial in managing acute gastric volvulus, as nonspecific symptoms often delay treatment and increase the risk of severe complications.

Clinical Outcomes of the Arthroscopic Capsular Suture-Lifting Technique in the Treatment of Femoroacetabular Impingement in Patients With Borderline Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip.

Orthop J Sports Med

October 2024

Department of Sports Medicine, Beijing Key Laboratory of Sports Injuries, Engineering Research Center of Sports Trauma Treatment Technology and Devices, Ministry of Education, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) who also have borderline developmental dysplasia of the hip (BDDH), emphasizing the need for effective surgical options.
  • Researchers aimed to compare a new arthroscopic capsular suture-lifting technique with the traditional method of capsular closure to see if it offers better outcomes in terms of hip stability and patient satisfaction.
  • 144 patients were analyzed, with outcomes measured through radiographic assessments and patient-reported scores pre- and post-surgery, showing a need to evaluate the effectiveness of the new technique.
