This column explains the value of developing routine medical necessity letters to help patients maximize the likelihood of securing insurance approval for medically necessary services for the treatment of mental and substance use disorders, including psychotherapeutic treatment. The structure proposed for such medical necessity letters is based on the terms of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act and the landmark verdict in the federal class action known as Wit v. United Behavioral Health/Optum.

The main aim of this meta-analysis is to assess and compare the impact of two different surgical approaches, transperitoneal and retroperitoneal, on perioperative outcomes in robotic partial nephrectomy. A systematic search of MEDLINE, PubMed, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Database was conducted to identify relevant studies published between January 2000 and January 2025. Included were nine non-randomized controlled trials with a total of 2420 patients with matching propensity scores.

White adipose tissue (WAT) comprises a plethora of cell types beyond adipocytes forming a regulatory network that ensures systemic energy homeostasis. Intertissue communication is facilitated by metabolites and signaling molecules that are spread by vasculature and nerves. Previous works indicated that WAT responds to environmental cues by adapting the abundance of these "communication routes", however, high intra-tissue heterogeneity questions the informative value of bulk or single cell analyses and underscores the necessity of whole-mount imaging.

Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among inpatients and their families who were hospitalized in several hospitals in Chengdu from January to June 2023. The survey asked about the patients' (or their families') attitudes and opinions on whether it was necessary to give red packets to doctors during hospitalization.
