Introduction: This study sought to decipher the mechanism of transitions between life-history stages in a seasonally reproducing subtropical finch, Amandava amandava delineating the plasticity of the gonadotropes (LH cells), lactotropes (PRL cells), and thyrotropes (TSH cells) in the pituitary gland including the pars tuberalis, with regard to the in situ expression, morphological characteristics, and alteration in the plasma levels of hormones.
Methods: Immunohistochemistry of LH, PRL, TSH cells, morphometry and densitometry of expressed hormones (Image J software analysis), and ELISA for plasma hormonal levels were performed.
Results: LH, PRL, and TSH cells showed remarkable plasticity during the annual seasonal reproductive cycle.

Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is important for the thyroid gland, development, growth, and metabolism. Defects in TSH production or the thyrotrope cells within the pituitary gland cause congenital hypothyroidism (CH), resulting in growth retardation and neurocognitive impairment. While human TSH is known to display rhythmicity, the molecular mechanisms underlying the circadian regulation of TSH and the effects of TSH-thyroid hormone (TH) signaling on the circadian clock remain elusive.

In vertebrates, the anterior pituitary plays a crucial role in regulating several essential physiological processes the secretion of at least seven peptide hormones by different endocrine cell types. Comparative and comprehensive knowledge of the spatial distribution of those endocrine cell types is required to better understand their physiological functions. Using medaka as a model and several combinations of multi-color fluorescence hybridization, we present the first 3D atlas revealing the gland-wide distribution of seven endocrine cell populations: lactotropes, thyrotropes, Lh and Fsh gonadotropes, somatotropes, and -expressing cells (corticotropes and melanotropes) in the anterior pituitary of a teleost fish.

Objective: Somatostatin receptor ligands (SRL) are useful to control central hyperthyroidism in patients with thyrotropin-secreting pituitary adenoma (TSH pituitary adenoma). The aim of this study was to describe the frequency of thyrotropin deficiency (TSH deficiency) in patients with TSH pituitary adenoma treated by SRL.
Design: Retrospective study.
