We describe herein the design and synthesis of 4'-C,5'-C-methylene-bridged nucleic acid (4',5'-BNA), a novel artificial nucleic acid with the torsion angle γ in a non-canonical +ac range. The 4',5'-BNA phosphoramidite bearing a thymine nucleobase was synthesized from a commercially available thymidine analog in 11 steps and successfully incorporated into oligonucleotides. The resulting oligonucleotides were evaluated for their duplex-forming ability toward single-stranded DNA and RNA.

Tuberculous meningitis (TBM), a severe form of non-purulent meningitis caused by (Mtb), is the most critical extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB) manifestation, with a 30-40% mortality rate despite available treatment. The absence of distinctive clinical symptoms and effective diagnostic tools complicates early detection. Recent advancements in nucleic acid detection, genomics, metabolomics, and proteomics have led to novel diagnostic approaches, improving sensitivity and specificity.

Background: Synthetic data's utility in benchmark studies depends on its ability to closely mimic real-world conditions and reproduce results obtained from experimental data. Building on Nearing et al.'s study (1), who assessed 14 differential abundance tests using 38 experimental 16S rRNA datasets in a case-control design, we are generating synthetic datasets that mimic the experimental data to verify their findings.

The genus , a group of ciliated protists, has attracted attention as a model organism due to its widespread distribution and ease of cultivation. This study examines the evolutionary patterns of the SSU rRNA secondary structure within this genus, aiming to elucidate its role in supporting evolutionary relationships and uncovering cryptic species. By predicting the secondary structure of SSU rRNA and applying the CBC (Compensatory Base Change) concept analysis, we examined 69 species of the genus , with 57 SSU rRNA gene sequences retrieved from GenBank and 12 newly sequenced specimens from South Korea.

Inactivated vaccines are the most accessible type of COVID-19 vaccines in developing countries. Several studies, including work from our group, have demonstrated that the third dose (booster vaccination) of inactivated COVID-19 vaccine induces robust humoral and cellular immune responses.
