Background: HIV and tuberculosis (TB) co-infection poses a significant health challenge, particularly when involving the central nervous system (CNS), where it leads to severe morbidity and mortality. Current treatments face challenges such as drug resistance, immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS), and persistent inflammation. Glutathione (GSH) has the therapeutic potential to enhance treatment outcomes by improving antibiotic efficacy, reducing inflammation, and mitigating immune dysfunction.

The fungal genus is noted for its bioluminescence and the production of biologically active secondary metabolites. We isolated 47 fungal strains of germinated from spores of a single mushroom. Acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS) is a vital enzyme in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the pathogen causing tuberculosis (TB), involved in branched-chain amino acid synthesis. Targeting AHAS for drug design against TB offers a promising strategy due to its essentiality in bacterial growth. Actinobacteria belonging to Mycobacterium and Rhodococcus genera are able to synthesize and intracellularly accumulate variable amounts of triacylglycerols (TAG) in the form of lipid droplets (LDs). The lipid storage capacity of LDs in cells is controlled by the balance between lipogenesis and lipolysis. The growth of LDs in bacterial cells may be directly promoted by TAG biosynthesis, whereas TAG degradation might result in the reduction of LD sizes and lipid storage capacity.
