Interpenetrating network expansion sponge based on chitosan and plasma for ultrafast hemostasis of arterial bleeding wounds.

Carbohydr Polym

May 2023

Preventing arterial hemorrhage by intervening within the first few minutes is critical to the patient's life. Hemostatic materials have been developed over the last decades to address this issue, nevertheless these materials alone do not contribute to improve the survival effects in many extreme conditions, which is usually caused by penetrating arterial bleeding wounds that are incompressible and deep arterial bleeding with irregularly shapes. It is well known that, after calcium ion stimulation, many intriguing changes occurred in the major components of plasma, including the activation of several coagulation factors, such as the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin, prothrombin to thrombin, and so on.

Background: Patients with solo tumour malignancy are at higher risk of developing venous thromboembolism. When prophylactic anticoagulation (and in particular heparin) is used during cancer therapy however, patients appear to have a prolonged survival. Tumours express large quantities of procoagulant molecules, which predispose patients to these conditions.

Three cases of destructive native valve endocarditis caused by Staphylococcus lugdunensis.

Eur J Clin Microbiol Infect Dis

February 2005

Department of Laboratory Medicine and Bacteriology, University Hospital Leuven, Herestraat 49, 3000 Leuven, Belgium.

Described here are three cases of acute native valve endocarditis due to the coagulase-negative pathogen Staphylococcus lugdunensis with serious complications. Two of the three patients died despite optimal antibiotic therapy and cardiovascular surgery. These cases demonstrate the aggressive nature of S.

Aim: To study basic parameters of hemostasis in the course of acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN).

Material And Methods: Platelets number and aggregation 4-platelet factor, Willebrand's factor, activated partial thromboplatelet time, antithrombin III, fibrin-monomeric complexes and products of degradation fibrinogen/fibrin were studied in 127 APSGN patients. Autocoagulation, prothrombin and thrombin tests were made.

The parameters of plasma-platelet component of hemostasis were studied by autocoagulation test in 90 patients with rheumatoid arthritis of varying activity. To specify the role of blood platelets, their counts were estimated, as was their functional activity. Plasma coagulating activity was found elevated and anticoagulating activity reduced in disease of the first and second degrees of activity, particularly so in the second degree.
