Discrete light bullets in coupled optical resonators. | LitMetric

We consider arrays of coupled nonlinear optical cavities subject to coherent optical injection. These devices are described by the discrete generalized Lugiato-Lefever equation. We predict that stable three-dimensional localized structures, often called discrete light bullets, and clusters of them may form in the output of the coupled optical resonators. We consider both anomalous and normal dispersion and show that it results in the generation of, respectively, bright and dark discrete light bullets.

A general TD-Q learning control approach for discrete-time Markov jump systems.

This paper develops a novel temporal difference Q (TD-Q) learning approach, designed to address the robust control challenge in discrete-time Markov jump systems (MJSs) which are characterized by entirely unknown dynamics and transition probabilities (TPs). The model-free TD-Q learning method is uniquely comprehensive, including two special cases: Q learning for MJSs with unknown dynamics, and TD learning for MJSs with undetermined TPs. We propose an innovative ternary policy iteration framework, which iteratively refines the control policies through a dynamic loop of alternating updates.

Role of photon-counting computed tomography in pediatric cardiovascular imaging.

Department of Radiology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN 55905, United States.

Photon-counting computed tomography (PCCT) represents a significant advancement in pediatric cardiovascular imaging. Traditional CT systems employ energy-integrating detectors that convert X-ray photons into visible light, whereas PCCT utilizes photon-counting detectors that directly transform X-ray photons into electric signals. This direct conversion allows photon-counting detectors to sort photons into discrete energy levels, thereby enhancing image quality through superior noise reduction, improved spatial and contrast resolution, and reduced artifacts.

Lead-halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) exhibit significant potential for advancing foldable perovskite light-emitting diodes (F-PLEDs) due to their discrete crystalline morphology, bright emission across an extensive color gamut, and remarkable color purity; however, their progression remains in the early stages with the concerns of inadequate performance and mechanical instability. This study proposes a ligand strategy employing tribenzyl organic cation (tribenzylamine, TBA) carried multidentate X-type Lewis soft base (sodium acid pyrophosphate, SAPP) to address the challenges above simultaneously. Specifically, the use of multibranched aromatic ligands considerably improved the adhesion force between PNCs and adjacent layers, enhancing mechanical stability during folding, while the control sample shows deleterious cracks.

Single photon generation from quantum dots: recent advances, challenges and future directions.

A single photon source (SPS) is a device designed to emit photons, one at a time, enabling precise control over quantum states, unlike classical light sources that produce interfering streams. This capability is crucial for secure communication protocols such as quantum key distribution and for quantum networks, where single photons act as carriers of quantum information. Recent advancements have led to various SPS technologies, including quantum dots (QDs), atom-like emitters, and color centers in diamonds.

A factored display emits full-parallax dense-view light fields for a glasses-free 3D experience without sacrificing the spatial resolution of a liquid-crystal display (LCD). For static light fields, it achieves high-quality reconstruction by applying frame-based low-rank factorization to time-multiplexed sub-frame contents of stacked LCDs. However, for light field videos such frame-based factorization could introduce reconstruction artifacts and visual flickers and further cause human discomfort.
