A novel FeO-FeC heterostructure encapsulated into a carbon matrix was designed as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries. The composite had the high specific capacity of metal oxides, and maintained the stability of metal carbides. The unique heterostructure and tubular structure were conducive to charge transfer and ion diffusion.
