Here, we report the draft genome sequences of 10 marine bacteria that were isolated, assembled, and annotated by undergraduate students participating in a marine microbial genomics course. Genomic comparisons suggest that 7 of the 10 strains are novel isolates, providing a resource for future marine microbiology investigations.

Biochemical and molecular mechanisms of Rhodococcus rhodochrous IITR131 for polyethylene terephthalate degradation.

J Appl Microbiol

December 2024

Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory, Environmental Toxicology Group, FEST Division, CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Vishvigyan Bhawan, 31 Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Lucknow-226001, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Aims: To isolate polyethylene terephthalate (PET) degrading bacteria and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of PET biodegradation through biochemical and genome analysis.

Methods And Results: A Rhodococcus rhodochrous IITR131 was found to degrade PET. Strain IITR131 genome revealed metabolic versatility of the bacterium and had the ability to form biofilm on PET sheet resulting in the cracks, abrasions, and degradation.

Draft genome sequences of six high pH adapted strains isolated from Mariana forearc serpentinite mud volcanoes.

Microbiol Resour Announc

December 2024

Department of Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA.

Six marine bacterial isolates were obtained from fluid and sediments collected at alkaline serpentinite mud volcanoes of the Mariana forearc to examine life at high pH in a marine environment. Here, we present the draft genome sequences of these six isolates, classified as strains of the species .

We present lung virome data recovered through shotgun metagenomics in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from an infant with cystic fibrosis, who tested positive for infection. Using a bioinformatic pipeline for virus characterization in shotgun metagenomic data, we identified five viral contigs representing Pseudomonas phages classified as Caudoviricetes.
