Article Synopsis
  • Sweeteners are commonly used to reduce sugar intake in diets, but they often don't taste as good as natural sugars, leading to the creation of a new sweet protein called brazzein, produced from the strain Komagataella phaffii CF-st401.* -
  • The research focused on assessing the safety of this genetically modified microorganism (K. phaffii CF-st401) using in silico methods, analyzing its plasmid and DNA structure for potential risks like toxin production, antibiotic resistance, and allergenicity.* -
  • Findings showed that over 70% of the genetic material responsible for producing brazzein in K. phaffii CF-st401 is similar to the reference protein from the plant Pent

The strains of the genus , with more than 150 species, inhabit diverse environments; plant-associated bacteria reveal their plant growth-promoting activities due to a number of beneficial characteristics. Through the performance of diverse techniques and methods, including isolation of a novel strain from the aerial roots of leafless epiphytic orchid, Seidenf., its morphological and biochemical characterization, chemotaxonomy, phylogenetic and genome analysis, as well as bioassays and estimation of its auxin production capacity, a novel strain of ET2 is described.

Article Synopsis
  • A bacterial strain named GW78, which is milky-white, aerobic, and Gram-positive, was isolated from forest soil and grows best at 37°C and pH 7.0.
  • The strain has a 16S rRNA gene sequence showing 98.3% similarity to VKPM B-7519, indicating it shares a close relationship with it.
  • Through various analyses, GW78 shows unique genomic and chemotaxonomic properties, leading to its classification as a new species within its genus, named sp. nov., with GW78 designated as the type strain.

Cytotoxicity of some pesticides is a disadvantage for the Salmonella/microsome assay with regard to the equivalence assessment of pesticide technical grade active ingredients to the original products and detection of low-level impurities. The technical grade active ingredients (TGAIs) of pesticides from certain chemical classes were found to be toxic for Salmonella typhimurium strains. Among the highly cytotoxic compounds were sulfonylureas, which include 20 active ingredients.
