Introduction: We describe characteristic findings on multimodal evaluation and the features of hemorrhage within a foveal cystoid space in a patient presenting cystoid macular edema secondary to Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion (BRVO).

Case Description: We report a case of a 64-year-old diabetic male patient presenting gradual blurry vision in the left eye. Fundoscopic findings were suggestive of BRVO, such as hard exudates and mild venous engorgement superotemporally and diffuse macular intraretinal hemorrhages. In the foveal area, there was cystoid edema with blood-fluid level (BFL) inside one of the cystoid spaces. Retina multimodal evaluation, including color, blue filter, and red-free fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, fundus autofluorescence, and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) B and C scan imaging, confirmed blood within foveal cystoid space. The patient underwent antiangiogenic therapy with significant improvement of macular edema and reduction of the cystoid space after 3 months. In addition, there was a resolution of visual symptoms. The cystoid space previously partially filled with blood, persisted, despite presenting smaller volume and medium reflectivity in the SD-OCT.

Conclusions: Multimodal evaluation of blood-fluid level within foveal cystoid space in patients with BRVO has not been described previously. Identification of this sign may support the diagnosis of retinal vein occlusion in doubtful cases and further studies must be carried out to establish if the presence of BFL correlates with visual outcomes.

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of cataract extraction combined with multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) optic implantation in Berger space in school-age children with cataracts. It was a prospective study. The clinical data of school-age children with cataract who underwent cataract extraction combined with multifocal IOL implantation at Qingdao Eye Hospital of Shandong First Medical University from January 2019 to June 2023 were collected.

Article Synopsis
  • A 70-year-old woman was diagnosed with stellate nonhereditary idiopathic foveomacular retinoschisis, showing schisis cavities in the outer plexiform layer of her left eye through optical coherence tomography.
  • No leakage was observed in fluorescein angiography, and other potential causes for her condition were ruled out.
  • After five years, her visual acuity remained stable, the retinoschisis in her left eye resolved, but new cystoid spaces developed in the right eye, highlighting the need for multimodal imaging for monitoring such conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • * Methods: Conducted at a referral center in Portugal, the study involved RP patients who completed a questionnaire about their vision and underwent detailed eye scans. Morphometric parameters were analyzed, and correlations between clinical data and questionnaire responses were examined.
  • * Results: The study involved 23 RP patients with CME and 69 without it, showing no significant differences in self-reported visual function. While age positively correlated with vision-related quality of life, visual acuity

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) to distinguish between scar features in two types (type 1 and type 2) of macular neovascularization (MNV) associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
  • Medical records of 20 patients over 50 years old were analyzed, focusing on various OCT measurements, including outer retinal tubulations and retinal thickness, to compare the two MNV types.
  • Results showed that type 2 MNV had thinner choroid and distinct features on OCT compared to type 1 MNV, which could aid ophthalmologists in making better treatment decisions for patients.
