Epigenetic disorders play an important role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT). Therefore, the study of the possible role of DNA methylation in AIT is of great significance to explore the pathogenesis of AIT. From May 2019 to June 2019, whole blood samples were collected from 176 AIT patients and 176 controls from different water iodine levels in Shandong Province, China. We used the Illumina Methylation 850K BeadChip to determine significant differences in methylation status of genes and used the MethylTarget™ assay to verify the methylation level in 176 cases and 176 controls. The relative mRNA levels of genes were detected by quantitative real-time-polymerase chain reaction. There were multiple differential methylation sites in the and genes between the case and control population with different water iodine levels. Some target regions of HLA-DPB1 and genes were negatively correlated with relative mRNA expression in the case and control populations and with different water iodine levels. There is differential methylation status in genomic DNA in patients with AIT. The methylation patterns of and genes related to cell adhesion molecule pathway may be different based on different water iodine levels. and genes related to the cell adhesion molecules pathway may play a role in the development of AIT. A simple method for determining elemental sulfur in environmental water was developed and applied to seawater samples collected immediately after the occurrence of blue tides in Tokyo Bay. To investigate the concentration and extraction methods, artificial elemental sulfur was quantitatively produced by oxidizing a sulfide solution with an iodine solution, then used as a standard reagent in the experiments. To concentrate the elemental sulfur in the water sample, glass filter paper (GF/F) was used to filter and collect the elemental sulfur.

Case Summary: We present a case involving early-stage esophageal cancer discovered in a resting room, notable for the rare manifestation of esophageal mucosal bridging. Following a comprehensive multidisciplinary discussion and the development of a treatment strategy, we proceeded with endoscopic submucosal dissection for the patient.

The Orange Carotenoid Protein (OCP) is a unique water-soluble photoactive protein that plays a critical role in regulating the balance between light harvesting and photoprotective responses in cyanobacteria. The challenge in understanding OCP´s photoactivation mechanism stems from the heterogeneity of the initial configurations of its embedded ketocarotenoid, which in the dark-adapted state can form up to two hydrogen bonds to critical amino acids in the protein's C-terminal domain, and the extremely low quantum yield of primary photoproduct formation. While a series of experiments involving point mutations within these contacts helped us to identify these challenges, they did not resolve them.
