Myxosporean infection of Indian major carps (rohu, ; catla, ; mrigal, ) was examined from two fish farms and two fish markets in West Bengal, India. One and four species were detected from the fins and scales of the investigated species. Comprehensive morphological and molecular biological studies revealed four already known species, from the fins of rohu, from the scales of rohu, from the fins of catla, and from the fins of mrigal. This study complemented the species description of and with the missing molecular data. Moreover, based on morphometrics and ssrDNA sequence data, a new species was documented from the scales of rohu, and named n. sp.

Unlabelled: The large majority (over 70%) of American Indian adolescents who reside in cities rather than tribal lands or rural areas report relatively earlier onset of substance use and more harmful associated health effects, compared to their non-Native peers.

Objective: This study investigated multilevel ecodevelopmental influences on empirically derived patterns of substance use among urban American Indian adolescents.

Method: Data came from 8th, 10th, and 12th grade American Indian adolescents ( = 2,407) in metropolitan areas of Arizona.

Malaria has been a leading cause of death in human populations for centuries and remains a major public health challenge in African countries, especially affecting children. Among the five Plasmodium species infecting humans, Plasmodium falciparum is the most lethal. Ancient DNA research has provided key insights into the origins, evolution, and virulence of pathogens that affect humans.

Electrochemical Reduction of CO to CHOH Catalyzed by an Iron Porphyrinoid.

School of Chemical Sciences, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, 2A Raja SC Mullick Road, Kolkata, West Bengal 700032, India.

Designing catalysts for the selective reduction of CO, resulting in products having commercial value, is an important area of contemporary research. Several molecular catalysts have been reported to facilitate the reduction of CO (both electrochemical and photochemical) to yield 2e/2H electron-reduced products, CO and HCOOH, and selective reduction of CO beyond 2e/2H is rare. This is partly because the factors that control the selectivity of CO reduction beyond 2e are not yet understood.

Exploring Molecular Genetics Research on Obesity in Malaysia: Protocol for a Scoping Review.

JMIR Res Protoc

December 2024

Endocrine and Metabolic Unit, Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Research Centre, Institute for Medical Research, National Institutes of Health, Ministry of Health Malaysia, Selangor, Malaysia.

Background: Obesity presents a growing challenge to public health, and its intricate association with genetics continues to be a compelling field of study. In countries such as Malaysia, where diverse genetic backgrounds converge, exploring the molecular genetics of obesity is even more imperative.

Objective: This scoping review aimed to explore the literature on molecular genetics of obesity in Malaysia.
