Pericecal hernia, a subtype of internal hernia, is a rare and unusual cause of small-bowel obstruction (SBO). We report the case of a pericecal hernia in an 80-year-old woman who presented to the emergency department with symptoms of SBO. She experienced colicky diffuse abdominal pain associated with vomiting and obstipation for over five days. Abdominal examination showed rebound tenderness in the right iliac fossa without any mass palpation. Computed tomography noted a "sac-like" structure in the right iliac fossa with dilated and ischemic small-bowel loops within. Exploratory laparotomy showed strangulated pericecal hernia and non-viable small bowel loops in the inferior ileocecal recess. Extensive resection and defect repair followed by small-bowel end-to-end primary anastomosis was made. After two days of ICU admission, patient died from septic shock. This case report highlights the need for prompt diagnosis, followed by surgical intervention to lower mortality of SBO of internal hernia origin, especially in cases where no previous surgery is noted.

Background: According to Rome IV, reflux hypersensitivity (RH) represents a novel form of functional esophageal disorder. This study was designed to compare the clinical features of three types of endoscopic-negative heartburn: RH, nonerosive reflux disease (NERD), and functional heartburn (FH).

Methods: Patients with heartburn in a medical center from 01/01/2017 to 10/31/2021 were included.

Abdominal pain is a common presenting symptom among patients visiting the hospital. A wide range of differential diagnoses are associated with this presentation, some of which are more uncommon than others, and require a higher degree of clinical suspicion and radiological excellence to diagnose. Although clinicians rely on physical assessment, examining a patient who is agitated and non-cooperative sometimes limits the physical exam findings, making these diagnoses even more challenging.

Internal hernias are one of the rare causes of intestinal obstruction and usually is the diagnosis of exclusion. Para-duodenal hernias (PDH) are rare congenital disorders that occur due to malrotation of the midgut in the embryonic phase of development. They can be asymptomatic or can present as an incarcerated, strangulated, or even obstructed internal hernia.

New procedures like the robotic approach require proficiency to ensure patient safety and satisfactory functional results. Hiatal hernia surgery serves as a suitable training procedure for upper gastrointestinal tract surgeons transitioning to the robotic approach. This study aims to evaluate the outcomes of implementing the robotic approach in hiatal hernia surgery at a tertiary hospital and to assess the associated learning curve.

Introduction: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) in the preterm population is increasingly common in the current era of fetal endoluminal tracheal occlusion (FETO) therapy. There remains a lack of clinical guidance for clinicians and surgeons regarding optimal management strategies for such infants. We aimed to describe our experience in managing preterm CDH in a single quaternary neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
