Enterohemorrhagic (EHEC) is a common pathotype of that causes numerous outbreaks of foodborne illnesses. EHEC is a zoonotic pathogen that is transmitted from animals to humans. Ruminants, particularly cattle, are considered important reservoirs for virulent EHEC strains.

The combination of alcohol and a low-carbohydrate, high-protein, high-fat atherogenic diet (AD) increases the risk of lethal arrhythmias in apolipoprotein E/low-density lipoprotein receptor double-knockout (AL) mice with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). This study investigates whether left ventricular (LV) myocardial interstitial fibrosis (MIF), formed during the progression of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), contributes to this increased risk. Male AL mice were fed an AD with or without ethanol for 16 weeks, while age-matched AL and wild-type mice served as controls.

Paeniclostridium sordellii is responsible for severe infections in horses, cattle, and sheep; however, conventional vaccines exhibit limitations in production and immunogenicity. This study assessed the immunogenicity of a recombinant bacterin composed of a chimera (rQTcsHL) that combines segments from the lethal (TcsL) and hemorrhagic (TcsH) toxins in mice and sheep. Both immunized animal groups exhibited elevated levels of IgG, with the mice demonstrating moderate protection (<50%) against lethal challenges, comparable to that of the conventional vaccine.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a lethal disease. About 10% of affected individuals have an inherited component. Deleterious germline variants increase the lifetime risk for PDAC and are often associated with an elevated risk for extra-pancreatic malignancies.

Background: The genomic landscape of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has been characterized extensively, but there remains a significant need for actionable targets and effective therapies.
Methods: Here, we perform integrative analysis of genome-wide loss of heterozygosity and expression to identify potential tumor suppressor genes. The functions and mechanisms of one of the candidates, TACC2, are then explored both in vitro and in vivo, leading to the proposal of a therapeutic strategy based on the concept of synthetic lethality.
