Purpose: The foramen tympanicum (FT) is an anatomical variation of the tympanic part of the temporal bone located in the anteroinferior part of the external auditory pore (EAP) and posteromedial to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The FT is most often asymptomatic, but it can be symptomatic in rare cases. The prevalence of FT varies widely in the literature.

This study introduces a novel technique for arthroscopic surgery of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), developed by the first author. Traditional TMJ arthroscopy techniques typically utilize a reference plane extending from the lateral canthus to the tragus, which may misalign with the zygomatic arch and create technical challenges during percutaneous joint access. The proposed method addresses these limitations by leveraging coronal and sagittal tomographic measurements alongside 3-dimensional reconstructions to determine precise and anatomically appropriate entry points.

The repair of large cartilage defects remains highly challenging in the fields of orthopedics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. A chondroinductive agent is promising to activate endogenous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) so as to facilitate cartilage regeneration. In this study, we analyze the crystallographic data of the critical binding domain of transforming growth factor β3 (TGF-β3) with its type II receptor and successfully develop a novel chondroinductive peptide - TGF-β3-derived peptide No.

Most sialolithiasis occurs in the submandibular glands, which are highly related to the anatomy and secretory function of the submandibular glands. The authors report an 18-year-old patient with multiple submandibular gland duct stones combined with submandibular neurilemmoma. The course of diagnosis and treatment is highlighted, and the causes of the formation of multiple stones in this patient are analyzed.
