A 35-year-old man with malignant lymphoma of the skeleton was irradiated towards the first lumbar vertebra. Courses of cytotoxic drugs were given as the disease progressed. Isolated, nonliquefying necrosis of the common bile duct developed. A combined irradiation and drug effect is suggested as the cause of the necrosis.

Endometriosis is a chronic disease that affects around 10% of reproductive age women worldwide and a common cause of infertility. One of its manifestations is ovarian endometriomas, which are present in 17-44% of endometriosis patients. Among other cellular processes, fibroblasts are now thought to contribute to the coordination of immune responses in a range of chronic inflammatory diseases and cancer. While the pathologic roles of myofibroblasts, inflammatory fibroblasts and cancer associated fibroblasts in disease are reasonably well understood, the mechanisms behind their activation remain to be uncovered.
