Published: June 2021

Background: X-chromosome short tandem repeat (X-STR) markers are important in forensic identity investigations and kinship analysis.

Subject And Methods: In the current study, the distribution of 12 X-STR loci located in four linkage groups was evaluated using Investigator Argus X-12 Amplification Kit in 200 unrelated healthy individuals (105 males and 95 females) from the central region of Saudi Arabia in order to develop an allelic frequency database for the markers included in the kit.

Results: DXS10146 locus was the most informative with 21 alleles, while DXS8378 locus was the least with five alleles. Forensic parameters showed that all X-STRs loci, either as individual markers or as linkage groups, provide genetic information with high discrimination that is appropriate for forensic purposes with polymorphism information content (PIC), power of exclusion (PE), and paternity index (PI) varying from 0.61211 to 0.917979, 0.38722 to 0.842949, and 0.038416 to 0.16367, respectively. The pairwise genetic distance fixation index (Fst) results showed that the Saudi population is genetically closer to the Egyptian and Emirati populations and distant to the Turkish population.

Conclusion: The current study revealed that Investigator Argus 12 X-STR kit would support the forensic application, kinship testing involving female offspring, and human identification in the Saudi population.

Key Laboratory of Efficient Utilization of Non-grain Feed Resources (Co-construction by Ministry and Province) of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Shandong Agricultural University, Taian, Shandong, China.

The northern snakehead () is a valuable aquaculture species across certain Asian countries, contributing significantly to economic prosperity and dietary needs. However, its productivity faces significant challenges, particularly from diseases such as nocardiosis, caused by . To date, the majority of research efforts have focused on describing the observed phenomena related to infection.

Background: The humanized anti-disialoganglioside-2 monoclonal antibody naxitamab was approved in the USA in 2020 for the treatment of patients with relapsed/refractory high-risk neuroblastoma, limited to the bone or bone marrow, in combination with granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor. Treatment with naxitamab under expanded access was initiated by physicians from the Children's Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai, China, in August 2021.

Objective: We reviewed all suspected adverse reactions (ARs) reported to the Y-mAbs Argus Global Pharmacovigilance Safety Database for patients treated with naxitamab under expanded access in China from 1 August 2021 to 31 July 2022.

Background: In the BUDAPEST (Biventricular Upgrade on left ventricular reverse remodeling and clinical outcomes in patients with left ventricular Dysfunction and intermittent or permanent APical/SepTal right ventricular pacing)-CRT Upgrade randomized trial, the authors have demonstrated improved mortality and morbidity after cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) upgrade in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) with high right ventricular (RV) pacing burden.

Objectives: This substudy sought to examine the impact of CRT upgrade on symptoms, functional outcome, and exercise capacity.

Methods: In the BUDAPEST-CRT Upgrade trial, 360 HFrEF patients with pacemaker or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) and ≥20% RV pacing burden were randomly assigned (3:2) to cardiac resynchronization therapy with defibrillator (CRT-D) upgrade (n = 215) or ICD (n = 145).

Genetic Diversity and Forensic Utility of X-STR Loci in Punjabi and Kashmiri Populations: Insights into Population Structure and Ancestry.

Genes (Basel)

October 2024

Department of Anthropology and Ethnology, Institute of Anthropology, School of Sociology and Anthropology, Xiamen University, Xiamen 361000, China.

Article Synopsis
  • X-chromosomal short tandem repeats (X-STRs) are vital for forensic investigations and understanding population genetics, yet there's scarce data on their variation in Pakistani ethnic groups, specifically Kashmiris and Punjabis.
  • This research examined 12 X-STRs from 125 families (75 Kashmiri and 50 Punjabi) in Pakistan, showcasing 222 total alleles, with allele frequencies varying widely, and highlighting specific loci variance in polymorphism.
  • Findings indicated strong discrimination power for kinship analysis and revealed distinct genetic structures between Kashmiri and Punjabi populations, emphasizing their unique genetic backgrounds and differences from East Asian groups.

Background: This study investigates the effect of microemulsions of 0.8% Ocimum basilicum essential oil (MOBO) on the cooking quality and shelf life of snakehead fillets using different impregnation methods (air environment treatment, vacuum impregnation, ultrasonic impregnation and vacuum impregnation with ultrasonic-assisted). Basil essential oil, recognized for its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, is utilized in a microemulsion form to enhance its efficacy and application in food preservation.
