An involvement of a new zinc finger protein PbrZFP719 into pear self-incompatibility reaction.

Plant Cell Rep

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Crop Genetics and Germplasm Enhancement, Saya Institute of Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, 211800, China.

This study indicated that the CCHC-type zinc finger protein PbrZFP719 involves into self-incompatibility by affecting the levels of reactive oxygen species and cellulose content at the tips of pollen tubes. S-RNase-based self-incompatibility (SI) facilitates cross-pollination and prevents self-pollination, which in turn increases the costs associated with artificial pollination in fruit crops. Self S-RNase exerts its inhibitory effects on pollen tube growth by altering cell structures and components, including reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and cellulose content.

Prone Transpsoas Lumbar Interbody Fusion for Degenerative Disc Disease.

JBJS Essent Surg Tech

January 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, Center for Neuroscience and Spine, Virginia Mason Medical Center, Seattle, Washington.

Background: Prone transpsoas lumbar interbody fusion (PTP) is a newer technique to treat various spinal disc pathologies. PTP is a variation of lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) that is performed with the patient prone rather than in the lateral decubitus position. This approach offers similar benefits of lateral spinal surgery, which include less blood loss, shorter hospital stay, and quicker recovery compared with traditional open spine surgery.

A root system architecture regulator modulates OsPIN2 polar localization in rice.

Nat Commun

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Plant Environmental Resilience, College of Life Sciences, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, 310058, China.

Ideal root system architecture (RSA) is important for efficient nutrient uptake and high yield in crops. We cloned and characterized a key RSA regulatory gene, GRAVITROPISM LOSS 1 (OsGLS1), in rice (Oryza sativa L.).

Introduction: Vascular access (VA) is essential for patients with hemodialysis, and its dysfunction is a major complication that can reduce quality of life or even threaten life. VA patency is not only difficult to predict on an individual basis, but also challenging to predict in real-time. To overcome this challenge, this study aimed to develop a machine learning approach to predict 6-month primary patency (PP) using photoplethysmography (PPG) signals acquired from the tips of both index fingers.

One of the primary challenges in hand microsurgical reconstruction lies in addressing severe hand injuries, particularly those involving multiple finger amputations, as autologous replantation might not fully restore hand functionality. In such scenarios, fully shaped reconstruction of a severed finger combined with Ectopic banking could yield superior reconstructive outcomes and enhance the amputated limb's function. This case report presents a unique approach that combines ectopic replantation of an amputated finger with interphalangeal reconstruction methods to restore both the form and function of the hand.
