Schistosomiasis is one of the most prevalent parasitic infections in the developing world. When it affects the gastrointestinal system specifically the liver, it causes periportal fibrosis followed by cirrhosis. Cholecystitis however is a rare presentation, and associated liver abscess has certainly never been reported to date. We report a case of acute cholecystitis complicated by cholangitis and liver abscess in a 46-year-old man. After complex course of treatment, he had laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and the histology report confirmed schistosomiasis. Gallbladder schistosomiasis is an uncommon disease that is associated with dense fibrotic changes that strongly mimics xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis. Liver abscess may occur during the disease evolution especially in patient originating from endemic backgrounds. We present the case and a comprehensive literature review.

This study aimed to investigate the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), assessed by the Fatty Liver Index (FLI), and the occurrence of lung abscess within a large population-based cohort. We conducted a nationwide retrospective study using data from 367,930 subjects who underwent National Health check-ups between 2009 and 2018. Cox proportional hazards regression was performed to evaluate the association between the FLI and the incidence of lung abscess and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) after adjusting for age, sex, and relevant covariates.

The patients with Arthrogryposis-Renal dysfunction-Cholestasis (ARC) syndrome have genetic susceptibility to the opportunistic infections due to the involvement of VPS33B (vacuolar protein sorting 33 homolog B) in phagolysosome fusion in macrophages. Detailed pathologic studies in ARC patients are missing in literature due to the lack of autopsy. We described the first autopsy case of ARC syndrome in a 2-month-old male infant.

Primary cholangiocarcinoma is a rare bile duct epithelial neoplasm that can present with atypical clinical manifestations, complicating its diagnosis. A 62-year-old male showed symptoms suggestive of a complicated hepatic cyst that was later identified as intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. The patient presented with abdominal discomfort without fever.

Hepatic tuberculosis, typically associated with miliary tuberculosis, can occasionally present as localized liver lesions. This case report describes a 77-year-old male presenting with persistent abdominal pain and fever, following an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography for bile duct sludge removal. Subsequent computed tomography revealed focal liver lesions.

Background & Aims: Accurate multi-classification is the prerequisite for reasonable management of focal liver lesions (FLLs). Ultrasound is the common image examination, but lacks accuracy. Contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) offers better performance, but highly relies on experience.
