We present a deterministic workflow for genotyping single and double transgenic individuals directly upon nascence that prevents overproduction and reduces wasted animals by two-thirds. In our vector concepts, transgenes are accompanied by two of four clearly distinguishable transformation markers that are embedded in interweaved, but incompatible Lox site pairs. Following Cre-mediated recombination, the genotypes of single and double transgenic individuals were successfully identified by specific marker combinations in 461 scorings.

Plant cross-fertilization for production of dual-specific antibodies targeting both Ebola virus-like particles and HER2 protein in F plants.

Background: This study explores the cross-fertilization of transgenic tobacco plants to produce dual-specific monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) targeting Ebola virus-like particles and HER2 proteins. We generated F plants by hybridizing individual transgenic lines expressing the anti-HER2 breast cancer VHH mAb (HV) and the H-13F6 human anti-Ebola large single chain mAb (EL).

Objective: Hybridizing transgenic plants to express dual-antibodies between different structures VHH and LSCK indicate the potential of transgenic plants as a cost-effective and scalable production system for dual targeting mAbs.

The pathogenesis of Lewy body diseases (LBDs), including Parkinson's disease (PD), involves α-synuclein (α-Syn) aggregation that originates in peripheral organs and spreads to the brain. PD incidence is increased in individuals with chronic renal failure, but the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. Here we observed α-Syn deposits in the kidneys of patients with LBDs and in the kidney and central nervous system of individuals with end-stage renal disease without documented LBDs.

In watermelon (Citrullus lanatus), lesion mimic is a rare, valuable trait that can be used by breeders for selection at early growth stages. In this study, we tested a seven-generation family to determine the inheritance and genetic basis of this trait. As revealed by analysis of the lesion mimic mutant clalm, this trait is controlled by a single dominant gene.

Background: Factors leading to severe COVID-19 remain partially known. New biomarkers predicting COVID-19 severity that are also causally involved in disease pathogenesis could improve patient management and contribute to the development of innovative therapies. Autophagy, a cytosolic structure degradation pathway is involved in the maintenance of cellular homeostasis, degradation of intracellular pathogens and generation of energy for immune responses.

Inactivated SARS-CoV-2 induces acute skeletal muscle damage in human K18-hACE2 transgenic mice.

Instituto de Biofísica Carlos Chagas Filho, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Electronic address:

The pandemic due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) resulted in over 7 million global fatalities and billions of individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. Acute and chronic muscle impairment associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection affected a substantial number of patients, leading to the development of symptoms such as fatigue, muscle pain, and exercise intolerance. Our study introduces an animal model to improve understanding of the pathogenicity caused by SARS-CoV-2 in human skeletal muscle.
