In the presence of copper certain 2,2'-bipyridyls show antimycoplasmal activity, whereas copper itself causes a toxic effect. In this paper results are presented to elucidate the mechanism of copper uptake in the presence of 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline. The time course of copper and/or ligand uptake under the applied conditions is consistent with a carrier transport mechanism in which 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline operates as a carrier for copper ions. The influence of valinomycin on copper uptake indicates that the transmembrane potential is not the driving force in the carrier process.

A comparative pot study was performed to assess the toxic effects of copper (Cu) and/or zinc (Zn) contaminated wastewater (WW) irrigation on the growth, physiology, and element concentration of wheat grown for two months. The treatments included irrigation with uncontaminated wastewater (WW) as control, Cu-contaminated WW (CuWW), Zn-contaminated WW (ZnWW), and Cu + Zn contaminated WW (CuZnWW) in a completely randomized design. Compared to ZnWW, irrigation with CuWW or CuZnWW had severe effects on growth, physiology, and mineral absorption by wheat.

A multifunctional nanoplatform integrating multiple therapeutic functions may be an effective strategy to realize satisfactory therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of tumors. However, there is still a certain challenge in integrating multiple therapeutic agents into a single formulation using a simple method due to variations in their properties. In this work, multifunctional CuS-ICG@PDA-FA nanoparticles (CIPF NPs) with excellent ability to produce reactive oxygen species and photothermal conversion performance are fabricated by a simple and gentle method.

In recent years, the toxicity of microplastics (MPs) in combination with heavy metals, particularly the influence of varying microplastic sizes on their toxic effects, has attracted widespread attention. In this study, red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkia) were exposed to MPs of two particle sizes (S-MPs: 5 μm, 1 mg/L; and L-MPs: 100 μm, 1 mg/L) and Cu (5 mg/L) individually or in combination for 96 h. The accumulation patterns of MPs were as follows: gills > intestines > hepatopancreas > muscles.

Serotonergic 5-HT receptors in the cortex and other forebrain structures have been linked to cognitive, emotional and memory processes. In addition, dysfunction or altered expression of these receptors is associated with neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. [F]R91150 is a candidate radiotracer for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of 5-HT receptors, which showed promising properties in in vitro studies.

This study aimed to investigate the regulation of fibroblast phenotypes by MSCs delivering copper sulfide (CuS) nanoparticles (NPs) loaded with CDKN1A plasmids and their role in cartilage repair during osteoarthritis (OA). Single-cell RNA sequencing data from the GEO database were analyzed to identify subpopulations within the OA immune microenvironment. Quality control, filtering, PCA dimensionality reduction, and tSNE clustering were performed to obtain detailed cell subtypes.
