Ciprofloxacin (CIP) is a commonly used antibiotic, but its abuse may cause bacterial resistance, posing a high risk to the environment and human health. Herein, based on the molecular imprinting technology, this study proposed a ratiometric fluorescence sensor employing the "post-doping" strategy, which aims to be rapid, selective, and visually easy-to-use for CIP detection to address antibiotic residues and environmental risks. Specifically, by exploiting the "antenna effect" of lanthanide metal ions (Ln), terbium (III) (Tb) chosen as a fluorescence-assisted functional monomer as well as the red emitting CdTe quantum dots (QDs) as the internal reference signal were introduced into multi-emission Tb-CdTe@SiO@MIPs (TbMIPs).

Universities should standardize faculty application process.

Trends Cell Biol

January 2025

School of Biological Sciences, University of Southampton, Southampton, UK. Electronic address:

Building a faculty job application package is a crucial step for academic career advancement, yet early career researchers (ECRs) often face significant time and emotional challenges during this process. The varying application systems across institutions create unnecessary complexity and waste time. Standardizing these procedures would save time, reduce burdens, and enhance fairness in recruitment.

Aims: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is characterized by unexplained left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) with key pathologic processes including myocardial necrosis, fibrosis, inflammation, and hypertrophy, which are involved in heart failure (HF), stroke, and even sudden death. Our aim was to explore the communication network among various cells in the heart of transverse aortic constriction (TAC) surgery induced HCM mice.

Materials And Methods: Single-cell RNA-seq data of GSE137167 was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.

Morbid obesity: Optimizing neuraxial analgesia and cesarean delivery outcomes.

Best Pract Res Clin Anaesthesiol

September 2024

Department of Anesthesiology, University Hospital Basel, Basel, Switzerland.

The issue of obesity continues to reach new levels globally, affecting individuals across the age continuum. Obesity in pregnancy is associated with myriad comorbidities which may negatively impact the fetus, particularly dysfunctional labor and failure to progress ending in unplanned cesarean delivery. Neuraxial anesthesia represents the gold standard for cesarean delivery anesthesia and is increasingly beneficial for obese patients due to the risk of difficult airway.

In the EU, conditional marketing authorization is a pragmatic tool for early approval of a medicine that fulfills an unmet medical need. In the pharmaceutical legislation, an unmet medical need means that a condition lacks a satisfactory method for diagnosis, prevention, or treatment. If such satisfactory methods exist, the new medicinal product must hold a major therapeutic advantage for those affected, meaning that it must demonstrate an improvement in efficacy or safety over existing methods or, in exceptional cases, a major improvement in patient care.
