Orange-colored crystals of the oxoferrate tellurate K Fe Te O [x=0.222(4)] were synthesized in a potassium hydroxide hydroflux with a molar water-base ratio n(H O)/n(KOH) of 1.5 starting from Fe(NO ) ⋅ 9H O, TeO and H O at about 200 °C. By using (NH ) TeO instead of TeO , a fine powder consisting of microcrystalline spheres of K Fe Te O was obtained. K Fe Te O crystallizes in the acentric cubic space group I 3d. [Fe O ] pyramids share their apical atoms in [Fe O ] groups and two of their edges with [Te O ] octahedra to form an open framework that consists of two loosely connected, but not interpenetrating, chiral networks. The flexibility of the hinged oxometalate network manifests in a piezoelectric response similar to that of LiNbO .The potassium cations are mobile in channels that run along the <111> directions and cross in cavities acting as nodes. The ion conductivity of cold-pressed pellets of ball-milled K Fe Te O is 2.3×10 S ⋅ cm at room temperature. Magnetization measurements and neutron diffraction indicate antiferromagnetic coupling in the [Fe O ] groups.

Objective Applying carbon ion beams, which have high linear energy transfer and low scatter within the human body, to Spatially Fractionated Radiation Therapy (SFRT) could benefit the treatment of deep-seated or radioresistant tumors. This study aims to simulate the dose distributions of spatially fractionated beams (SFB) to accurately determine the delivered dose and model the cell survival rate following SFB irradiation. Approach Dose distributions of carbon ion beams are calculated using the Triple Gaussian Model.

The formation of non-ion conducting byproducts on zinc anode is notoriously detrimental to aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). Herein, we successfully transform a representative detrimental byproduct, crystalline zinc hydroxide sulfate (ZHS) to fast-ion conducting solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) via amorphization and fluorination induced by suspending CaF nanoparticles in dilute sulfate electrolytes. Distinct from widely reported nonhomogeneous organic-inorganic hybrid SEIs that exhibit structural and chemical instability, the designed single-phase SEI is homogeneous, mechanically robust, and chemically stable.

This study presents the direct measurement of proton transport along filamentous , or cable bacteria. Cable bacteria are filamentous multicellular microorganisms that have garnered much interest due to their ability to serve as electrical conduits, transferring electrons over several millimeters. Our results indicate that cable bacteria can also function as protonic conduits because they contain proton wires that transport protons at distances >100 µm.

Chemically tuned organic-inorganic hybrid halide perovskites based on bromide and chloride anions CH(NH)Pb(BrCl) (CH(NH): formamidinium ion, FA) have been crystallized and investigated by neutron powder diffraction (NPD), single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-vis spectroscopy. FAPbBr and FAPbCl experience successive phase transitions upon cooling, lowering the symmetry from cubic to orthorhombic phases; however, these transitions are not observed for the mixed halide phases, probably due to compositional disorder. The band-gap engineering brought about by the chemical doping of FAPb (BrCl) perovskites (x = 0.

Silicon-based anode materials experience significant volume changes and low conductivity during the lithiation process, which severely hinders their successful application in lithium-ion batteries. Reducing the size of silicon particles and effectively combining them with carbon-based materials are considered the main strategies to enhance the lithium-ion storage performance of silicon-based anodes. In this study, we employed a "bottom-up" strategy to synthesize Si@C anode materials by cross-linking octa-aminopropyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (NH-POSS) with terephthalaldehyde and subsequent high-temperature treatment and low-temperature liquid reduction.
