The objective was to formulate and characterize the nanoemulsion based on oil, intended for use in infected teeth root canal therapy. The investigation of the antioxidant and antibiofilm potential toward was aimed as well. Characterization of oil (by GC/MS analysis) and nanoemulsion (by dynamic light scattering instrument), and determination of antibacterial (by microdilution assay), antibiofilm (by crystal violet assay) and antioxidant properties (by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate and thiobarbituric acid assay methods) were provided. Antibiofilm efficacy of irrigation procedure including nanoemulsion was screened on extracted teeth (by CFU-counting assay). Notable antibacterial and antibiofilm activity, both against forming and preformed biofilms of oil, was observed. Irrigation involved nanoemulsion showed remarkable antibiofilm potential. Both substances induced some antioxidant activity. Results encourage further research with the aim of application of the nanoemulsion in dental practice.

Dental inflammatory diseases remain a challenging clinical issue, whose causes and development are still not fully understood. During dental caries, bacteria penetrate the tooth pulp, causing pulpitis. With the advent of bioceramic sealers, sealers have become a more important filling material for endodontic treatment. When a solid sealer, rather than an elastic gutta-percha, occupies a significant portion of the root canal, it is unclear whether the tooth structure will be strengthened to withstand stress or whether the increased stiffness will transmit the load directly to the entire root, potentially causing root fracture. This study compared the fracture resistance and fracture patterns of roots filled with various root canal sealers, including bioceramic sealers, and each corresponding filling technique.
