Within the deep lung, pulmonary surfactant coats the air-liquid interface at the surface of the alveoli. This complex mixture of amphiphilic molecules and proteins modifies the surface tension and mechanical properties of this interface to assist with breathing. In this study, we examine the effects on pulmonary surfactant function by two industrially used compounds composing surfactants and polymers.

Crack pattern-based metal grid film is an ideal candidate material for transparent electromagnetic interference shielding optical windows. However, achieving crack patterns with narrow grid spacing, small wire width, and high connectivity remains challenging. Herein, an aqueous acrylic colloidal dispersion was developed as a crack precursor for preparing crack patterns.

The accurate and reliable quantification of the levels of disease markers in human sweat is of significance for health monitoring through wearable sensing technology, but the sensors performed in real sweat always suffer from biofouling that cause performance degradation or even malfunction. We herein developed a wearable antifouling electrochemical sensor based on a novel multifunctional hydrogel for the detection of targets in sweat. The integration of polyethylene glycol (PEG) into the sulfobetaine methacrylate (SBMA) hydrogel results in a robust network structure characterized by abundant hydrophilic groups on its surface, significantly enhancing the PEG-SBMA hydrogel's antifouling and mechanical properties.

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) composite hydrogels have recently emerged as promising candidates for soft hydrogel actuators. However, developing a facile and fast method to obtain multifunctional PNIPAM hydrogel actuators with simulating biological versatility remains a major challenge. Herein, we developed a fast-redox initiation system to prepare PNIPAM/sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/TCT MXene nanocomposite hydrogel with multidirectional actuating behaviors and improved mechanical properties.

The surface characteristics of scaffolds utilized in bone tissue engineering profoundly influence subsequent cellular response. This study investigated the efficacy of applying a gelatin coat to the surface of aminolysis surface-modified scaffolds fabricated through 3D printing with a polycaprolactone/hydroxyapatite nanocomposite, employing the hot-melt extrusion FDM technique. Initially, aminolysis surface modification using hexamethylenediamine enhanced surface hydrophilicity by introducing amine functional groups.
