AI Article Synopsis

  • Cardiac rhabdomyomas in newborns can lead to serious heart issues.
  • Sirolimus has recently been used to treat these tumors, but specific guidelines on dosage and monitoring are still unclear.
  • A case study of a premature baby treated with sirolimus showed no major side effects, and existing literature on similar cases was reviewed.

Article Abstract

Cardiac rhabdomyomas in neonates may cause significant cardiac risk. Recently, sirolimus has been used to treat these lesions. The dose, duration, and monitoring for therapy are unknown. A case of sirolimus use in a premature neonate is presented. No significant adverse effects were seen. Review of published cases is included. ().

Inflammation is a physiological response of the immune system to infectious agents or tissue injury, which involves a cascade of vascular and cellular events and the activation of biochemical pathways depending on the type of harmful agent and the stimulus generated. The Kunitz peptide HCIQ2c1 of sea anemone is a strong protease inhibitor and exhibits neuroprotective and analgesic activities. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory potential of HCIQ2c1 in histamine- and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated RAW 264.

Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are key drivers of local fibrosis. Adiponectin, conventionally thought of as an adipokine, is also expressed in quiescent HSCs. However, the impact of its local expression on the progression of liver fibrosis remains unclear.

Anthropogenically induced climate change has significantly increased the frequency of acute weather events, such as drought. As human activities amplify environmental stresses, animals may be forced to prioritize survival over behaviors less crucial to immediate fitness, such as socializing. Yet, social bonds may also enable individuals to weather the deleterious effects of environmental conditions.

It is crucial to inhibit the neuroinflammation response as it is a prominent factor contributing to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. However, the limited development of neuroinflammation models dramatically hinders the efficiency of nanomedicine discovery. In recent years, the optically transparent zebrafish model provided unique advantages for imaging of the whole body, allowing the progression of the disease to be visualized.
