Published: August 2019

Restrictive cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, and cardiac thrombi have been reported with endomyocardial fibroelastosis. This case report examines a unique case of focal endomyocardial fibroelastosis localized to the right ventricle that resulted in sudden cardiac death in an otherwise healthy 21-year-old adult and discusses cardiac magnetic resonance imaging findings in this disease. Background: Patients with hypoplastic left ventricles (LV) who undergo volume-loading procedures (recruitment, biventricular (BIV) repair) are at risk for adverse outcomes including heart failure and death. We investigated pre-BIV LV shape as a predictor of outcome after BIV repair in patients with hypoplastic LVs.

Methods: Baseline and post-recruitment cardiac MRI and CT data were analyzed in patients with hypoplastic LV (< 50 ml/m).

Background: The absence of other structural heart disease is a prerequisite for the diagnosis of non-compaction of the ventricular myocardium (NVM). We also observed that the phenomenon of non-compaction in ventricular muscle in some large patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) patients in children. This study was aimed to explore the prognosis of NVM associated with large PDA in children and provide a better understanding of the interplay between genetic and hemodynamic factors that lead to the phenotype of NVM.

ALCAPA is a rare congenital anomaly that presents with left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and mitral valve regurgitation. The mortality rate is roughly 90% if the intracoronary collateral isn't significantly augmented. Malignant arrhythmias resulting in sudden death are common, affecting nearly 90% of patients with a mean age of 35 years.

Article Synopsis
  • Left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) is a hereditary heart condition marked by unusual heart muscle structure, and this study specifically focused on biventricular noncompaction (BiVNC) in children to understand its clinical characteristics and genetic factors.
  • The research involved 234 pediatric patients and revealed that BiVNC often leads to serious complications, including a higher incidence of congenital heart disease and reduced survival rates compared to other heart conditions.
  • Findings indicated that patients with BiVNC frequently exhibited left ventricular dysfunction and a notable percentage had genetic variants linked to mitochondrial and developmental issues, emphasizing the need for thorough genetic screening for better patient outcomes.

Objective: This study aims to assess the surgical outcome of borderline hypoplastic left ventricle before and after the induction of the left ventricle rehabilitation strategy.

Methods: A retrospective review investigated patients with borderline hypoplastic left ventricle who underwent surgical intervention between 2012 and 2022. The patient cohort was stratified into two groups based on the initiation of left ventricle rehabilitation: an early-era group (E group, 2012-2017) and a late-era group (L group, 2018-2022).
