Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a multisystem, inflammatory condition usually presenting with respiratory symptoms, such as fever, shortness of breath, and severe cough. It may also present with ocular, neurological, and musculoskeletal manifestations. However, since the emergence of the disease in 2019, only a few cases with ocular involvement have been reported in the literature. We present a case of acquired Brown syndrome secondary to COVID-19.

Background: This study identifies and quantifies diverse pathological tau forms in the retina at both early and advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and assesses their correlation with disease status. In the pathogenesis of AD, the tau protein undergoes post-translational modifications, including hyperphosphorylation (p-tau). As the disease progresses, pathological tau can propagate as oligomers, aggregate into fibrils, and paired helical filaments (PHF), and ultimately form intraneuronal neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs).

This paper presents progress made toward the overarching goal to adapt single-photon-counting microcalorimeters to magnetic fusion energy research and demonstrate the value of such measurements for fusion. Microcalorimeter spectrometers combine the best characteristics of x-ray instrumentation currently available on fusion devices: high spectral resolution similar to an x-ray crystal spectrometer and broad spectral coverage sufficient to measure impurity species from Be to W. As a proof-of-principle experiment, a NASA-built x-ray microcalorimeter spectrometer has been installed on the Madison Symmetric Torus (MST) at the Wisconsin Plasma Physics Laboratory.

Background: Fleas are insect vectors that transmit several Gram-negative bacterial pathogens acquired by ingesting infected vertebrate blood. To combat foodborne illness, insect midgut epithelial cells are armed with efficient microbial recognition and control systems, such as the immune deficiency (IMD) pathway that regulates the expression of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). However, despite their medical and veterinary importance, relatively little is known about the IMD signaling pathway and production of AMPs in the digestive tract of cat fleas (Ctenocephalides felis).

Unlabelled: Nevi developed in children are one of the topical issues of pediatric dermatology. The constant change in size and shape often worries parents, and unnecessary removal of the nevi is planned. The development of accompanying scars and sometimes recurring nevi presents a new problem for parents and dermatologists.

Black band disease (BBD) is one of the most prevalent diseases causing significant destruction of coral reefs. Coral reefs acquire this deadly disease from bacteria in the microbiome community, the composition of which is highly affected by the environmental temperature. While previous studies have provided valuable insights into various aspects of BBD, the temperature-dependent microbiome composition has not been considered in existing BBD models.
