Antithrombotic therapy and the risk of pocket hematoma after subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implantation.

J Interv Card Electrophysiol

January 2025

Heart Center, Department of Cardiology, Amsterdam Cardiovascular Sciences Heart Failure & Arrhythmias, Amsterdam UMC Location University of Amsterdam, Meibergdreef 9, 1105, AZ, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Background: Little data exists regarding the optimal antithrombotic strategy during S-ICD implantation to prevent pocket hematomas. This study explores the association between perioperative antithrombotic management and the occurrence of pocket hematoma following S-ICD implantation.

Methods: All patients who underwent de novo S-ICD implantation between February 2009 and January 2023 at Amsterdam UMC were included.

Background: The most effective way to treat patients following a first ICD therapy is unclear. We hypothesised that following first ICD therapy, combining different treatment strategies would be associated with a reduction in the risk of subsequent therapy compared to single strategies alone.

Methods: Data was collected from consecutive patients undergoing ICD implantation at King's College Hospital between January 2009 and December 2019.

Background: Accurate prediction for survival in individualized patients with cardiac resynchronization therapy with a defibrillator (CRT-D) is difficult.

Methods: We analyzed the New Japan cardiac device treatment registry (JCDTR) database to develop a survival prediction model for CRT-D recipients.

Results: Four hundred and eighty-two CRT-D recipients, at the implantation year 2018-2021, with a QRS width ≥120 ms and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤35% at baseline, were analyzed.

[Remote monitoring for patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices and heart failure].

Herzschrittmacherther Elektrophysiol

January 2025

Hannover Herzrhythmus Centrum, Klinik für Kardiologie und Angiologie, Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, Carl-Neuberg-Str. 1, 30625, Hannover, Deutschland.

The digitalization in healthcare facilitates continuous monitoring of relevant medical parameters through internal and external sensors. For patients with heart failure and cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), telemedicine has the potential to improve patient care and reduce use of healthcare resources. Remote monitoring shortens the response time to a clinical event, reduces inappropriate shocks, and increases patient satisfaction.
