A new approach to produce nanocellular polymers combining small cell sizes with low relative densities is presented herein. This production method, based on gas dissolution foaming, consists of performing a double saturation and foaming cycle. Thus, nanocellular polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) has been produced through a first saturation at different saturation conditions (6, 10, and 20 MPa and -32 °C), at constant foaming conditions (60 °C for 1 min). Then, the nanocellular PMMAs obtained from the previous step were again saturated at different saturation conditions, 10 MPa 24 °C, 31 MPa 24 °C, 35 MPa 22 °C, and 6 MPa -15 °C and foamed at different temperatures (40, 80 and 100 °C) for 1 min. This new approach allows the cells created in the first saturation and foaming cycle to further grow in the second cycle. This fact permits producing nanocellular polymethylmethacrylate sheets combining, for the first time in the literature, cell sizes of 24 nm with relative densities of 0.3.

Pomegranate is one of the most popular fruits worldwide, and it is important to maintain the overall quality and bioaccessibility of freshly squeezed pomegranate juices (PJS). The adverse effects of heat treatment on sensory properties and phytochemicals encourage the use of non-thermal processes in the juice industry. Hereby, the effects of high-pressure homogenization (HPH) (50, 100, and 150 MPa) on the physicochemical properties, antimicrobial activity, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant capacity of freshly-squeezed PJS from different genotypes were investigated.

The lotus seed and lily bulb beverage (LLB) has a problem with solid particle sedimentation. To address this issue, LLB was homogenised twice at different pressures (0~100 MPa) using a homogeniser. This study aims to investigate the changes in the particle size distribution (PSD), microstructure, rheological behaviour, sedimentation index (IS), turbidity, physicochemical properties, and sensory quality of LLBs after homogenisation treatments.

This paper aims at investigating the triaxial behavior of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) under extremely high pressures, and experimentally determine Equation of State (EOS) for several different AAC densities. Oedometric tests were carried out using a home-made high-pressure triaxial apparatus, and pressures up to ~500 MPa were applied. The complete pressure-bulk strain relationships were measured, and new findings and insights were obtained.

Osteoarthritis (OA), the most common degenerative joint disorder, seriously affects patients' daily activities. Recently, hydrogels, due to their similar structure to articular cartilage, have shown great potential as cartilage-repairing materials. In the present work, we developed a simple process for fabricating terpolymer [P(acrylamide--acrylic acid--2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid)/Fe] hydrogel [P(AAm--AAc--AMPS)/Fe].
