Objective: To observe the antibacterial effect of Ag-loaded TiO (Ag-TiO) and Ag-TiO coated endotracheal tube (ETT) on the bacterial biofilm (BF) of Staphylococcus aureus.
Methods: 2, 3-bis-(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide (XTT) colorimetric method was used to detect minimal inhibitory concertation (MIC) of Ag-TiO for inhibition of BF of Staphylococcus aureus. The Ag-TiO coated ETT were prepared, and divided into 11 mg/L, 8 mg/L, 5 mg/L, 2 mg/L and 0 mg/L ETT group, according to the concentration gradient, then impregnated in the liquid with Staphylococcus aureus at a concentration of 1.0×10 cfu/L. The influence of antibacterial coated ETT on the formation of Staphylococcus aureus BF was determined by detecting the colonies of bacteria and BF on the ETT.
Results: Ag-TiO had a significant inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus BF in a concentration-dependent manner, and its MIC was 10 mg/L. Ag-TiO coated ETT has significant anti-Staphylococcus aureus BF effect, and the higher the concentration, the stronger the effect. The absorbance (A) values of Ag-TiO 5 mg/L, 8 mg/L, 11 mg/L ETT groups were significantly lower than that in control group (0.176±0.004, 0.147±0.002, 0.094±0.002 vs. 0.267±0.045, all P < 0.05). The inhibitory rates of Ag-TiO 2 mg/L, 5 mg/L, 8 mg/L ETT groups were increased gradually, and 11 mg/L Ag-TiO coated ETT group had the highest inhibitory rate for BF, the inhibitory rates were 6.4%, 34.1%, 44.9% and 64.8%, respectively.
Conclusions: Both Ag-TiO and Ag-TiO coated ETT have significant inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus BF.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) have been classified as a new class of persistent organic pollutants by the United Nations Environment Programs in 2009. In environment, PBDEs can undergo the degradation process to form less brominated diphenyl ethers. In the present study, the 96 h LC value for 4-bromodiphenyl ether (BDE-3) was found to be 3.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) occur widely in drinking water, and consumption of contaminated drinking water is an important human exposure route. Granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption can effectively remove PFAS from water. To support the design of GAC treatment systems, a rapid bench-scale testing procedure and scale-up approach are needed to assess the effects of GAC type, background water matrix, and empty bed contact time (EBCT) on GAC use rates.

Background: Both renal function decline and systemic inflammation may synergistically increase the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). This study investigates the association between estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels with the risk of new-onset AF in patients with diabetes mellitus.
Methods: We included diabetic patients without AF who participated in physical exams in the Kailuan Study from 2006 to 2010.

Identifying the signatures of intestinal dysbiosis caused by common stresses is fundamental to establishing efficient health monitoring strategies for sea cucumber. This study investigated the impact of six common stress experienced frequently in aquaculture on the growth performance, intestinal homeostasis and microbiota of sea cucumber, including thermal (23°C), hypoosmotic (22‰ salinity), ammonium (0.5 mg/L NH -N), and nitrite (0.

To develop antibacterial agents with a novel mechanism of action, a series of sulfone compounds containing a 1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-]pyridine were designed and synthesized by progressive molecular structure optimization. The antibacterial activities of some derivatives against the four plant pathogens (), (), (), and () were evaluated. Among them, compound demonstrated significant antibacterial activities against , , and , with EC values of 1.
