Advances in surgery and multidisciplinary approach have made limb salvage surgery feasible in most patients with tumours around the shoulder joint. Although resection and reconstruction options are complex, good outcomes can be achieved when performed at a specialised centre. The data of patients with bone tumours who underwent proximal humeral resection and reconstruction in a single cancer centre were prospectively analysed. Comparison between biological and non-biological reconstruction was done in seven patients of which three patients underwent biological reconstruction and four patients had non-biological reconstruction. Measurement data were presented as mean ± standard deviation. The mean values were compared using independent test. Kaplan-Meier method was used to evaluate survival with log rank test for comparison among groups. A value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant at 95% confidence interval. There were six males and two female patients. Mean follow-up duration was 17.3 months. The mean age of patients was 24.7 ± 16.3 years. The mean functional score for biological reconstruction was 26.3 ± 1.16 and for non-biological reconstruction was 24.5 ± 1.3 with a value of 0.1. Overall survival of patients with biological reconstruction was 75% and non-biological reconstruction was 100% with a value of 0.3. Recurrence-free survival for biological reconstruction and non-biological reconstruction was 75% and 100%, respectively, with value of 0.3. Limb salvage surgery in a dedicated cancer centre is a feasible option for most tumours around the shoulder joint. Biological and non-biological reconstructions both produced acceptable functional outcomes in our patients.

Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been extensively employed across clinical and research fields, but often exhibits sensitivity to site effects arising from non-biological variations such as differences in field strength and scanner vendors. Numerous retrospective MRI harmonization techniques have demonstrated encouraging outcomes in reducing the site effects at image level. However, existing methods generally suffer from high computational requirements and limited generalizability, restricting their applicability to unseen MRIs.

Over eight million surgical procedures are conducted annually in the United Stats to address organ failure or tissue losses. In response to this pressing need, recent medical advancements have significantly improved patient outcomes, primarily through innovative reconstructive surgeries utilizing tissue grafting techniques. Despite tremendous efforts, repairing damaged tissues remains a major clinical challenge for bioengineers and clinicians.

Structured-illumination microscopy (SIM) offers a twofold resolution enhancement beyond the optical diffraction limit. At present, SIM requires several raw structured-illumination (SI) frames to reconstruct a super-resolution (SR) image, especially the time-consuming reconstruction of speckle SIM, which requires hundreds of SI frames. Considering this, we herein propose an untrained structured-illumination reconstruction neural network (USRNN) with known illumination patterns to reduce the amount of raw data that is required for speckle SIM reconstruction by 20 times and thus improve its temporal resolution.

Peripheral nerve injuries in the upper limb can lead to substantial disability and pain. We aimed to assess how socioeconomic factors affect outcomes after repaired or reconstructed digital or major nerve trunk injuries in the upper limb. We identified 670 individuals, who underwent surgical nerve repair or reconstruction using sensory nerve autografts, in the Swedish National Quality Registry for Hand Surgery 2010-2018.

Cryo-electron microscopy has delivered a resolution revolution for biological self-assemblies, yet only a handful of structures have been solved for synthetic supramolecular materials. Particularly for chromophore supramolecular aggregates, high-resolution structures are necessary for understanding and modulating the long-range excitonic coupling. Here, we present a 3.
