Reduction plating is a concept used to provisionally maintain reduction in the treatment of various fractures throughout the body. It is often used in challenging fracture patterns where the use of reduction clamps hinders placement of the definitive fixation construct. In this article, we present a technique for fixation of ankle fractures, in which a mini-fragment plate is used to keep provision reduction of the fracture, while the definitive plate is applied. This technique is particularly useful when using a posterolateral one-third tubular plate as your definitive construct. This study provides Level V evidence.

Reducing the time required for the detection of bacteria in blood samples is a critical area of investigation in the field of clinical diagnosis. Positive blood culture samples often require a plate culture stage due to the interference of blood cells and proteins, which can result in significant delays before the isolation of single colonies suitable for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) analysis. In this study, we developed a non-specific enrichment strategy based on SiO-encapsulated FeO nanoparticles combined with MALDI-TOF MS for direct identification of bacteria from aqueous environments or positive blood culture samples.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of Sub-periosteal Peri-implant Augmented Layer (SPAL) technique performed with deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM), delivered either as particulate (pDBBM) or block (bDBBM), in correcting a peri implant bone dehiscence (PIBD). Implants showing a thick (≥ 2 mm) peri-implant buccal bone plate (PBBP) at placement were also examined.
Material And Methods: Patients with a PIBD ≥ 1 mm, treated with SPAL with either pDBBM (SPAL) or bDBBM (SPAL), and patients with an implant showing a PBBP ≥ 2 mm at insertion (CONTROL) were included.

Brucellosis is listed by the World Health Organization as one of the seven most neglected global zoonotic diseases. A live-attenuated vaccine is still the main strategy used to prevent the spread of brucellosis. In this study, we constructed a two-gene (purE and purK)-deletion vaccine in Brucella melitensis vaccine strain M5 with homologous recombination.

Background & Aim: Sternotomy remains a commonly used technique to access the heart for cardiac surgery worldwide. To date, there is no clear consensus on the single superior sternal closure technique. Patient-specific factors such as osteoporosis, diabetes, old age, body habitus influence a surgeon's choice in this matter as do techniques commonly used during the training period and used in the current workplace.
