1-Phenyl-3-(1-phenyl-1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl)isoquinoline (HMeL) has been prepared by Pd(-XantPhos)-catalyzed "" to synthesize new phosphorescent red iridium(III) emitters (601-732 nm), including the carbonyl derivative Ir(κ--,'--,'-MeL)Cl(CO) and the acetylacetonate compound Ir(κ--,'--,'-MeL)(acac). The tetradentate 6e-donor ligand (6tt') of these complexes is formed by two different bidentate units, namely, an orthometalated 2-phenylisoquinoline and an orthometalated 2-benzylpyridine. The link between the bidentate units reduces the number of possible stereoisomers of the structures [6tt' + 3b] (3b = bidentate 3e-donor ligand), with respect to a [3b + 3b' + 3b″] emitter containing three free bidentate units, and it permits a noticeable stereocontrol. Thus, the isomers -Ir(κ--,'--,'-MeL){κ-,-(CH-py)}, -Ir(κ--,'--,'-MeL){κ-,-(CHR-py)}, and -Ir(κ--,'--,'-MeL){κ-,-(CHR-py)} (R = H, Me) have also been selectively obtained. The new emitters display short lifetimes (0.7-4.6 μs) and quantum yields in a doped poly(methyl methacrylate) film at 5 wt % and 2-methyltetrahydrofuran at room temperature between 0.08 and 0.58. The acetylacetonate complex Ir(κ--,'--,'-MeL)(acac) has been used as a dopant for a red PhOLED device with an electroluminescence λ of 672 nm and an external quantum efficiency of 3.4% at 10 mA/cm.

The thermodynamically controlled self-assembly of bis-bidentate quaterpyridine ligand, L = 2,2':5',5″:2″,2‴-quaterpyridine, with Cr and subsequent oxidation to Cr yields the first photoluminescent tetrahedral [CrL] molecular cage. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals the presence of two homochiral cages (ΛΛΛΛ and ΔΔΔΔ) in the unit cell that crystallize as a racemic mixture. Additionally, a PF anion is observed inside the cavity, in line with isostructural cages built with Ni or Fe.

Monensic acid is a natural polyether ionophore and is a therapeutic of first choice in veterinary medicine for the control of coccidiosis. Although known as a sodium-binding ligand, it can also form a variety of coordination species depending on experimental conditions applied. In this study, we present the crystal structures and properties of Co(II) and Mn(II) complexes of sodium monensinate (MonNa) derived from the reaction of MonNa with cobalt or manganese dinitrates.

Total syntheses of the C-glucosidic ellagitannins (-)-punicacortein A, (-)-epipunicacortein A and (+)-castalin were accomplished for the first time, and those of the glucopyranosic ellagitannins (+)-tellimagrandin I and (+)-pedunculagin were revisited. The atroposelective construction of their characteristic hexahydroxydiphenoyl (HHDP) and nonahydroxyterphenoyl (NHTP) units relied on the use of different cupric-amine complexes under different reaction conditions to mediate the intramolecular dehydrogenative coupling of galloyl groups at different positions of glucose cores. In particular, the monodentate n-butylamine and the bidentate (-)-sparteine were found to be complementary in their capacity to promote the regio- and atroposelective coupling of galloyl groups on a C-glucopyranosic core into 2,3-O-(S)- and/or 4,6-O-(S)-HHDP units.

CK1δ is a serine-threonine kinase involved in several pathological conditions including neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Specifically, it seems that an inhibition of CK1δ could have a neuroprotective effect in these conditions. Here, a series of [1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a][1,3,5]triazines were developed as ATP-competitive CK1δ inhibitors.

ConspectusLewis π acids, particularly high-valent transition metals with vacant orbitals, can coordinate with unsaturated compounds such as alkynes and alkenes by means of π-bonding. The coordination enhances the electrophilicity of the bound compounds, thereby facilitating reactions─such as nucleophilic addition─that take place at the ligated carbon-carbon multiple bonds. This activation phenomenon occurs at the ligand rather than at the metal atom, and it has been extensively utilized in the development of catalytic methods.
