Cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) is an evolutionarily conserved enzyme that plays a key role in mammalian sulfur amino acid biochemistry, mutations in which are the cause of classical homocystinuria (HCU), an inborn error of metabolism. Although there is agreement in the literature that CBS is a homomultimer, its precise structure is a source of confusion. Here, we performed a series of experiments examining the quaternary structure of various wild-type and mutant CBS enzymes using a combination of native gel electrophoresis, in situ activity assays, analytical ultracentrifugation, and gel filtration.

With almost 90% of Americans expressing a desire to age in place in their home, many health systems and communities are challenged to provide the right resources, at the right time, to support What Matters to older adults. In the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), approximately 50% of Veterans enrolled in VA health care are aged 65 and older, driving an imperative to provide timely, Age-Friendly care through a broad continuum of services. VA has taken a multifaceted approach to shift Long-Term Services and Supports to promote aging in place through innovation pilots, expansion of Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) and adoption of Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) practices [or "framework"].

Background: States use Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs to enable access to home- and community-based services for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD). However, enrollment rates and potential inequities are not well documented, impeding efforts to improve care access and quality for waiver program enrollees, especially for racially minoritized beneficiaries experiencing compounded barriers to services and supports.
Objective: To characterize year-by-year 1915(c) waiver program enrollment among Medicaid-enrolled adults with I/DD from 2016 to 2019 and to analyze population-level inequities by type of I/DD and racial/ethnic group.

Background And Objectives: The differentiation of spinocerebellar ataxia type II (SCA 2) from idiopathic multiple systemic atrophy of the cerebellar type (MSA-C) is often difficult in patients with cerebellar ataxia when molecular testing is not available. Besides genetic testing, magnetic resonance imagining (MRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) prove to be beneficial. Nevertheless, the characteristics observed through radiology change as the disease advances.
