Objective: The present study evaluated the effects of nicotine concentration (0-10 mg/ml) and flavor (gummy bear vs unflavored) on the subjective experiences of vaporized nicotine in young adult low-dose nicotine (3 mg/ml) ECIG users.
Participants: Eight young adult ECIG users were recruited.
Methods: A single blinded crossover study was used. Participants were instructed to take ten 1.5 second puffs, each separated by 20 seconds. After self-administration, heart rate was recorded, and participants completed the Drug Effects, Direct Effects of Nicotine, and Direct Effects of ECIG questionnaires.
Results: ECIG user's standard daily nicotine dose influenced the rewarding and aversive effects of nicotine as the 10 mg/ml dose was found to be aversive in this user group. The combination of flavor and nicotine increased the subjective effects of ECIGs.
Conclusions: Flavored e-liquids contribute to the reinforcing properties of nicotine by enhancing the subjective effects, which may lead to continued ECIG use.

Background: This study aimed to assess the impact of smoking status, as measured by pack-years (PY), on components of metabolic syndrome while considering the influence of anxiety.
Design: This cross-sectional study was conducted at a smoking cessation clinic in Turkey, enrolling individuals who visited the clinic in 2022. The Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were utilized as assessment tools, while metabolic syndrome parameters (body mass index, hypertension, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia) were evaluated.
Evidence from human self-report and rodent models indicate cocaine can induce a negative affective state marked by panic and anxiety, which may reduce future cocaine use or promote co-use with opiates. Dynorphin-mediated signaling within the striatum is associated with negative affect following cocaine withdrawal and stress-induced cocaine seeking. Here, we used a trace conditioning procedure to first establish the optimum parameters to capture this transient cocaine negative affective state in wild type mice, then we investigated striatal opioid peptides as a substrate mediating cocaine conditioned place avoidance (CPA).
