Effect of Lighting Methods on the Production, Behavior and Meat Quality Parameters of Broiler Chickens.

Animals (Basel)

June 2024

Department of Animal Husbandry Technology and Animal Welfare, Institute of Animal Sciences, Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Páter Károly 1, 2100 Gödöllő, Hungary.

Many farms have been replacing traditional lighting sources with light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs because of technological modernization. We aimed to investigate the effects of incandescent lighting (IL) and LED lighting on Cobb 500 broiler chickens for six weeks. Production parameters (body weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio), calculated slaughter values (yield%, relative breast%, thigh%) and breast meat quality parameters (pH at 45 min and 24 h postmortem, color, drip loss, kitchen equipment losses, shear force, meat composition) were recorded.

Maintaining energy provision in the heart: the creatine kinase system in ischaemia-reperfusion injury and chronic heart failure.

Clin Sci (Lond)

April 2024

Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Radcliffe Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, United Kingdom.

The non-stop provision of chemical energy is of critical importance to normal cardiac function, requiring the rapid turnover of ATP to power both relaxation and contraction. Central to this is the creatine kinase (CK) phosphagen system, which buffers local ATP levels to optimise the energy available from ATP hydrolysis, to stimulate energy production via the mitochondria and to smooth out mismatches between energy supply and demand. In this review, we discuss the changes that occur in high-energy phosphate metabolism (i.

Weather, sex and body condition affect post-fledging migration behaviour of the greater flamingo Phoenicopterus roseus.

Mov Ecol

August 2023

Area Avifauna Migratrice (BIO-AVM), Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA), via Ca' Fornacetta 9, 40064, Ozzano dell'Emilia, BO, Italy.

Background: Understanding which intrinsic and extrinsic factors dictate decision-making processes such as leaving the natal area or not (migratory vs resident strategy), departure time, and non-breeding destination are key-issues in movement ecology. This is particularly relevant for a partially migratory meta-population in which only some individuals migrate.

Methods: We investigated these decision making-processes for 40 juvenile greater flamingos Phoenicopterus roseus fledged in three Mediterranean colonies and equipped with GPS-GSM devices.

Regularizing transformers with deep probabilistic layers.

Language models (LM) have grown non-stop in the last decade, from sequence-to-sequence architectures to attention-based Transformers. However, regularization is not deeply studied in those structures. In this work, we use a Gaussian Mixture Variational Autoencoder (GMVAE) as a regularizer layer.

The coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic continues to have a negative influence on the global population's well-being and health. Scientists in many fields around the world are working non-stop to find a solution to the prevention of this epidemic. In the field of computer science, this struggle is supported by studies on especially the analysis of X-ray and CT images with artificial intelligence.
