We present results of theoretical modelling of macroscopic circulating flow induced in a cloud of ferrofluid by an oscillating magnetic field. The cloud is placed in a cylindrical channel filled by a nonmagnetic liquid. The aim of this work is the development of a scientific basis for a progressive method of addressing drug delivery to thrombus clots in blood vessels with the help of the magnetically induced circulation flow. Our results show that the oscillating field can induce, inside and near the cloud, specific circulating flows with the velocity amplitude about several millimetres per second. These flows can significantly increase the rate of transport of the molecular non-magnetic impurity in the channel. This article is part of the theme issue 'Transport phenomena in complex systems (part 1)'.

Background: HIV induced endothelial dysfunction (ED) contributes to cardiovascular disease (CVD) in women with HIV (WWH). Although psychosocial stress has been implicated in the development of CVD in HIV, its impact on ED in WWH remains unknown.
Objectives: The authors hypothesized that posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and HIV interact to contribute to ED in WWH.

Background: Carotid webs are rare nonatherosclerotic disorders in the carotid artery and are increasingly recognized as factors of ischemic stroke in the young population. Asymptomatic webs can be treated with antithrombotic therapy, whereas symptomatic cases frequently require surgical interventions, including carotid endarterectomy (CEA). However, guidelines for the optimal timing of these treatments remain unestablished, especially compared to atherosclerotic stenotic lesions, due to the rarity of carotid webs.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has high mortality. The role and regulatory mechanism of hsa_circ_0021727 (circ_0021727) in ESCC remain largely unknown. This study focused on the undiscovered impact of circ_0021727 on cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and angiogenesis of ESCC.

High concentrations of neutrophil degranulation products in the plasma and thrombi are poor prognostic indicators in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). This study aimed to identify candidate effectors capable of mediating neutrophil degranulation post-AIS, and to reveal their underlying epigenetic mechanisms. Microarrays and ChIP-seq were applied to analyze the neutrophils of patients with AIS.

Septic arthritis (SA) caused by Staphylococcus aureus is a severe inflammatory joint disease, characterized by synovitis accompanied with cartilage destruction and bone erosion. The available antibiotic treatment alone is insufficient to resolve the inflammation that leads to high rates of morbidity and mortality. Among the CD4 T helper lymphocytes, the Th17 and Tregs are key regulators of immune homeostasis.
