Spectroscopic studies into the identification and characterisation of psittacofulvins were performed using resonance Raman spectroscopy. It was confirmed that red colour regions display Raman band wavenumber shifts with excitation wavelength, whereas yellow regions do not. There was, however, one yellow region (Calyptorhynchus banksii) that did display wavenumber shifting with excitation wavelength. The data in Raman band wavenumber shifting is observed may be interpreted as probing sample volumes in which a number of dyes of differing length are present in which comparative resonance Raman signals select out the dyes to differing extents depending on their absorption profile, structurally changes between the ground and excited state and the Raman scattering of particular modes. The observed spectral features suggest the presence of a psittacofulvin with greater conjugation than has been reported previously.

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a biomarker for many diseases, and monitoring its activity level is important for disease diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we used the microdroplet technology combined with an laser-induced polymerization method to prepare the Ag nanoparticle (AgNP) doped hydrogel microbeads (HMBs) with adjustable pore sizes that allow small molecules to enter while blocking large molecules. The AgNPs embedded in the hydrogel microspheres can provide SERS activity, improving the SERS signal of small molecules that diffuse to the AgNPs.

DNA methylation is an epigenetic mechanism that regulates gene expression and is implicated in diseases such as cancer and atherosclerosis. However, traditional clinical methods for detecting DNA methylation often lack sensitivity and specificity, making early diagnosis challenging. Nanomaterials offer a solution with their unique properties, enabling highly sensitive photochemical and electrochemical detection techniques.

Three triphenylamine-Indane donor-acceptor dyes with different functional groups on the acceptor were studied to investigate how substitution would affect the optical properties. The dyes studied were IndCN, containing two malononitrile groups; InO, with two ketone groups; and InOCN, which features mixed functional groups. A combination of Raman spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption and emission spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed for characterization.

Significantly, the Raman activity of O-D vibrations was greatly enhanced by two orders of magnitude due to electron transfer in DMSO molecules. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations showed that the O-D Raman activity was significantly enhanced in the DMSO-DO dimer compared to the DO dimer.

We recently demonstrated molecular plasmons in cyanine dyes for the conversion of photon energy into mechanical energy through a whole-molecule coherent vibronic-driven-action. Here we present a model, a molecular plasmon analogue of molecular orbital theory and of plasmon hybridization in metal nanostructures. This model describes that molecular plasmons can be obtained from the combination or hybridization of elementary molecular fragments, resulting in molecules with hybridized plasmon resonances in the electromagnetic spectrum.
