Lip and Oral Cavity Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Hematol Oncol Clin North Am

Published: October 2021

Lip and oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) develop from progressive dysplasia of these mucosal structures. The cancers are often preceded by premalignant lesions, and any nonhealing ulcers of the lip or oral cavity should be biopsied. Some risk factors for these 2 subsites overlap and include tobacco use, alcohol use, and an immunocompromised state. Lip and oral cavity SCC are clinically staged based on physical examination and imaging. The 5-year overall survival for early-stage lip and oral cavity SCC is around 70% to 90% but decreases to about 50% for late-stage disease.

Intraneural Pseudoperineuriomatous Proliferations and Traumatic Neuromas: A Retrospective Multicenter Study of Clinicopathological Characteristics.

Head Neck Pathol

March 2025

Department of Biosciences and Oral Diagnosis, Institute of Science and Technology, São Paulo State University (UNESP), Av. Eng. Francisco José Longo, 777 - Jardim São Dimas, São José dos Campos, SP, CEP 12245-000, Brazil.

Background And Purpose: Described in 2013, intraneural pseudoperineuriomatous proliferations (IPP) present perineurial cells concentrically surrounding the axon-Schwann cell complexes, forming pseudo-onion bulbs. Different from intraneural perineuriomas, rare neoplasms with differentiation of perineural cells, IPP are reactive, associated with fibrosis, and frequently diagnosed histologically as traumatic neuroma (TN). The aim of this study was to characterize IPP by exploring its clinicopathological features and differentiating it from the main neural lesions that are part of the histopathological differential diagnosis through a retrospective study in six Brazilian Oral Pathology laboratories.

Presurgical three-dimensional palatal morphology in children with different cleft types compared to healthy controls.

J Craniomaxillofac Surg

March 2025

Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Clinic of Pediatric Surgery, Institute of Mother and Child, Ul. Kasprzaka 17a, 01-211, Warsaw, Poland. Electronic address:

Palatal morphology in patients with clefts can be accurately assessed during the presurgical period, providing insights into how cleft type affect palatal development. These early observations are unbiased by treatment, making them broadly applicable. This study aimed to identify differences in palatal morphology among untreated patients with various cleft types before surgery.
