Studies have shown that changes in the redox state of cells might be closely related to pathological and physiological processes. Sulfur dioxide and hydrogen peroxide, as a significant redox couple in living cells, are endogenously produced by cells. Here, we report a long-wavelength fluorescent probe to reversibly monitor sulfur dioxide and hydrogen peroxide. This probe (NBD) displayed high selectivity and sensitivity, which could be accumulated in mitochondria for real-time imaging of SO/HO. These results indicated that NBD would be an ideal tool for monitoring the redox cycle state in living cells.

The detection of intracellular biothiols (cysteine, N-acetyl cysteine, and glutathione) with high selectivity and sensitivity is important to reveal biological functions. In this study, a 2-(2-methoxy-4-methylphenoxy)-3-chloro-5,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione (DDN-O) compound was newly synthesized and used as a fluorogenic probe (detector molecule) in the fluorometric method for the rapid, highly selective, and sensitive determination of biothiols. The intensity values (λ = 260 nm, λ = 620 nm) of the product were measured by adding biothiols to the reaction medium at varying concentrations and the glutathione equivalent thiol content values of each biothiol were calculated.

Background: Treatment of deep carious lesions poses significant challenges in dentistry, as complete lesion removal risks compromising pulp vitality, while selective removal often reduces the longevity of restorations. Herein, we propose a minimally invasive approach using High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for microscale removal of carious dentine. Concurrently, HIFU's antimicrobial effects against associated cariogenic biofilms and the corresponding thermal and biological impacts on surrounding tissues were investigated.

Carbon dots doped with metals and non-metals have gained much popularity due to the enhancement in their optical and electronic properties. In this study, polyethyleneimine-functionalized transition metal (nickel or copper) doped carbon dots (CD, NiCD and CuCD) were synthesized through hydrothermal method. The carbon dots exhibited a blue fluorescence at 470 nm when excited at 350 nm.

The close genetic resemblance between Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria innocua, combined with their presence in similar environments, poses challenges for species-specific detection in food products. Ensuring food safety through microbiological standards necessitates reliable detection of pathogens like L. monocytogenes and L.
